He is working his arse off on the recruiting trail. I think we end up getting a couple of bigtime out of state LBs in this class. Imagine if we snagged one from Alabama and picked up one from the east coast. This is something we LSU recruiting followers have been dreaming of for years.

Lets hope he's actually good at coaching like the last guy was.

I know he can recruit. My concern at this point is game planning, strategy and in game day adjustments. We will always have the talent on defense. But no matter how much talent we have, you can't be zigging when you need to be zagging.

talent always far outweighs coaching. the combination of orgeron/steele will be far greater than chavis/haley when it comes to the total picture of talent and coaching combined. also, chavis lost us at least 4 games due to late 4th qtr drives (incl. twice to bama).

I love the work he is putting in - finally matches our DB coach.

I really like style of guys we are going after too - bigger and I think more able to fit into more looks and fronts.

You have to believe Steele is working with a chip on his shoulder.

He's had some rough patches at other places and hopefully he's learned from them, from Saban, etc.

LSU can afford him a chance for rebirth.

Hard for me to be impressed with someone who hasn't coached a game at LSU

So why not just be impressed on what he has done, to date.

Not that hard

How many of the 9 recruits committed out of the 25 LSU will probably get did steele recruit big shot? You ask me we're a couple misses from a complete LSU meltdown. At the end of the day all the recruiting success going to Ed. Steele will need to win some games to get credit in the end but I do like the direction the defense going in so far.

I am just evaluating the guy based on his work thus far. He is recruiting hard for LSU. That's worthy of praise compared to what we were used to with Chavis. Obviously, nobody can evaluate his on-the-field coaching at LSU yet, because it is Spring. There will be plenty of time for you to jump the guy's shite later on if he disappoints. In the meantime, maybe you should just shut your face until football season starts.

I honestly think both of you are correct.

1. I don't think he's done much deserve a ton of credit so far.

2. He's already shown he's willing to put in the recruiting work nationally. Good for him and us.

I agree with this in a big way. He gets asked a lot about the Clemson bowl game where his D gave up 70 points and I'll bet that pisses him off, considering that D was actually pretty good all year and a single game like that was obviously anomolus. I think he's gonna come on strong this year. The balls-to-the-wall recruiting he's doing is setting him up for success.

Of course I would be being negative by stating the obvious lol. I love the steele hire for what it's worth but I just don't get how patrick is really impressed by steele so far. I'm sure he worked hard everywhere he has been and his problem was never recruiting so sue me if im not impressed by that. Now if we land fulton, white, willie, steal carter back from bama and land a few of those DT's then I will be impressed with recruiting. Just my opinion though im not trying to be negative.
