How refreshing is it to be able to trust the staff’s evals over the recruiting services?

Instead of star chasing like Miles and O, we have professionals in charge who recruit to meet team needs.

A #10 recruiting class that fills in all the holes on the team is better than a #3 class that brings in a bunch of skill position players but ignores the lines and other needs like we’ve seen too many times before.

Agreed in principal, but our DL/edge class isn’t good at all.

I do think we need to get McKinley to replace Smith, but Edge is pretty solid as long as we get a good one (or several) next year.

Who plays edge next year? Womack will be too big and Howard is an unknown.

We have a DC named House who knows how to scheme pretty well.

Howard will be a beast soon.

Wiggins will be almost 280 lbs. He’s not an edge.

They will go to the portal again. It’s definitely a concern to not get a top edge rusher 2 classes in a row.

Agreed, especially when it comes to offensive lineman. It seems like Notre Dame always had a very good offensive line, under Brian Kelly.

Womack was a 5 star edge player in the 2023 class he’s not too big. Some of y’all should get into coaching since you appear to know more than the staff.

I can guarantee you’ve never seen Wiggins in person. He is 100% an edge. Just stop

I saw a freshman line up on the edge last year, and was almost unstoppable

Literally won us the Arkansas game when the offense could not move the ball.

I guarantee you don't know what an "edge" by modern definition is(recruitmg services). It's a WDE or 3-4 Jack. Think Ojulari, Mingo even Sam Montgomery. Not Wiggins. He's a SDE. He and Savion Jones are essentially the same body and skillset. Neither translates to edge. Womack situationally or this year only. Expectations are that he also plays SDE down the line. That's what the coaches have said. It's not a rumor.

Yeah screw them 5-star players, give me the unranked to 2-star guys with heart that want to play for LSU!

The 5 highest ranked recruits for LSU last year were

Perkins
Wiggins
Campbell
Howard
Emery Jones

If you asked who were LSU’s three most impactful freshmen last season Perkins, Campbell and Jones would likely be the three most listed Good thing the staff didn’t just go “star chasing”.

Had Simmons committed to LSU the OP would be celebrating how great the staff is because they landed a very highly ranked player. Unfortunately LSU didn’t. So now it’s “refreshing” LSU doesn’t just “chase stars”

Rankings matter a little but not right now. People freak out every year at this point.

I don’t think most of the guys understand that we run a 3-4 defense and your OLB is your edge rusher. Womack and Wiggins are not 3-4 edge rushers. They are DE’s that will have their hand in the dirt the vast majority of plays. That’s why Kelly went out and got 2 transfers at the position this offseason….
