Top football and baseball guy from petal, ms.

Seemed liked lsu would have pushed for him more if him leaving for baseball didn't seem so likely. Possibly a gunshy reaction to zach lee ordeal.

Is it still looking like he will be high pick and go pro?

Be as it may....it's not like Alford was LSU's to literally take, if we wanted.

Alford's HS HC recruited him to Southern Miss...because the Golden Eagles did a Dale Brown. You hire the HS HC....and increase your chance to get the players........

Good luck to Alford though, I wish him the very best...........I think he was NEVER a top flight MLB draftee...and we probably did back off, fearing the re-emergence of the Zach Lee Defection

Hirring his HS coach helped, but he also grew up down the street from USM's baseball coach and has been playing baseball with his son for some time now. That was a big part of his recruitment as well.

He told teams not to draft him. Looks like he will make it to college.

Just a leverage move. Josh Bell did the same thing last year and look where he is. It may backfire on Alford though with the CBA, bonus pools, etc.

In other words, if you do draft me, you better bring the big money.

What a stupid, misleading article title. He hasn't been drafted yet.

Yeah, I just skimmed the article and thought it might be of interest on here. I see now where they jumped the gun on the story.

Definitely of interest, writer is just trying to grab views with that title though. Until the deadline passes, all of this is a ploy to get more money. The stronger the commitment, the higher the price.

The new CBA will affect it a little but not a lot. The teams have a set amount of money that they can spend throughout the first 10 rounds, so if they save a good bit of money on their first rounder, they can use that money on someone else, like they would for Alford

Alford could go anywhere from pick 25-75 based on his talent. He could fall anywhere from round 1s to round 5 based on his signability. Like posters have said the team that drafts him better have a plan to sign him.

Pertaining to Winston we need to see where he goes in the draft before making predictions. He's basically naming his price with the potential leverage of playing both baseball/football at FSU for 3 years.

I could definitely see both going college.

Alford is going to get a pretty decent offer where he got drafted...I'd definitely take it over playing football at USM for 3+ years. His baseball stock is probably maxed at this point if he sticks with football at USM.
