How Ideal is the OLINE to DLine suggestion by CBK for 2024?

I understand that it is not as Ideal as, say, a LT Overton coming to us that could play right away.

But if BK knows that the suggested olinemen (I assume Tyree Adams and P Mubenga and maybe another) are serviceable; how do you feel about it?

If the spring portal doesn’t deliver huge prospects, how do you feel about the situation?

2024 could be a great year if we are serviceable, here. Obviously would love some better-than-back-up options, here. I just get the feeling that Davis wants more to work with and I have hopes that he will get just that. But the future is still uncertain at this position.

Plenty of numbers at LB AND DB.

There are no degrees of ideal. Poaching the OL for DL is not ideal, but it may work out well.

Not ideal at all, but it's the hand we have to play with at the moment.

If they are moving to be productive pieces of the DT rotation, I'm all for it. If they are moving just to have another body in the room, no thanks. Key word is productive.

But I'll trust the staff to figure it out.

Any time you're asking a kid to change positions and do something he's never done before, usually his development suffers. Players are too specialized these days.

I can't think of many who have been successful at LSU, especially right away. Maybe years down the line.

True but I believe a couple the ol players probably played both in hs.

Corey Webster
Marcus Spears
Jack Hunt
Josh Reed and Devery Henderson I guess could fit into this category too, although they didn't switch sides, just positions.

I'm sure there's others, but you're right. These are more the exception than the norm.

Jacoby Stevens etc.

Yes, I get it. But we’re Tyree Adams and Paul Mbenga really good defensive line players in high school? That’s what I want to know.

I think you can assume that somewhere along their path, they both have played some DL. Now how much actual coaching or production they had during that time is beyond me.

With incoming freshmen, you just have to look at skill over experience in some of these situations. If the coaches recognize traits and skills that can translate to the DT position, then I guess we just have to sit back and cross our fingers that they know what to look for.

So I guess going back to your original question...this is probably the furthest from ideal as you can get.

I think it’s a great idea and for one of the only positions on the field that this can work. A DT is essentially a big bodied hole stuffer if you will. A plug. Nothing like 300 lb backup OG, to plug that gap, which is what we need, desperately.

That's what Guillory and Washington are. We need guys that shoot gaps. Seems like a "bodies" move more than a quality of player move. Good for practice but not games. Unless we are planning to let the LBs eat with a 3 man front full of space eaters, we need guys that can push the interior.

If Brad Davis likes a guy’s intangibles, everyone should trust that. He’s one of the best Dline coaches for a reason. Relax

Didn’t know that guy was doing both sides of the ball

He must make more than a coordinator

Yeah god forbid a dline coach knows what it takes for a good dlineman. You never played football and it shows

I got the impression they were moving a couple over just for camp bodies. Not permanent position changes. Id expect them to hit the spring portal hard and heavy
