I saw Haven tonight. Very imposing and impressive. Quick release and made some huge conversations at the right time. I do, however, question his 3/4 throwing mechanics. He dominates a bunch of 6’ defensive linemen, but it will be an issue in college. I would assume he has plenty of time to adjust.

Haven's release is unique and bizarre looking. Not sure it's correctable nor if it really needs to be but he's probably leaving lots of velocity and accuracy on the table.

Same 2A guys that Derek Stingley was just bigger, stronger, faster than from the same exact school as Haven?
LCA was widely regarded as a top 10 team in the state this year. They went 4-0 against Rummel, Westgate, Central, and Evangel. Haven just put up 7 tds against that LCA team... mighty impressive. Huge fan of Houston and Haven wish there was a way to somehow get them both, but quite unlikely.

You can't really compare mutual opponents in high school vs high school because the dropoffs in surrounding talent is so much larger than when comparing college to college...but both are very good, there isn't much to really point your finger at as to why one will or won't be better than the other.

Maybe hard to say which is better right now. I just think that Haven’s physical attributes and arm strength give him a much higher ceiling.

So like Vince Young?

Watching him last year he reminded me of Anthony Richardson. Just a guy with all the physical tools in the world and looks like he was built in a lab to play QB but then you watch him on the field and it leaves a lot to be desired. Haven is a big gamble that he reaches that potential just like the Colts with Richardson. Now if you can convince him to come and sit for a few years as a backup then hes worth a take but i think hes too valued by others to get him to do that. And maybe he's improved already, idk I haven't watched him this year

I just find it hard to believe a 5’10 QB will have success at the college or NFL level.
I see Bryce Young vs Anthony Richardson

Let's introduce you to Bryce Young

Anthony Richardson is a 1 of 1 athlete at QB
I think if EJ Manuel every time I watch haven

Look at Bryce at Bama was 5’9-5-10 185 with pads on…ideally prefer 6’3 215 with a cannon and burrow style running ability but you can win with both if you have a good OL and game plan

From the FYIW department, here is what a respected poster and LCA supporter posted on another board-
quote:
In the debate of who’s better between Pop Houston and Elijah Haven…it’s not even close. As cheezs said, and I’m gonna agree with him, Haven is as good as I’ve seen in my 40 years of watching HS football in Louisiana. He is the REAL DEAL and I’d say fair comparable players are Vince Young and Cam Newton.
