I see they have offers out but Gunnell's the only one we hear that they're actively courting.

I get that he should get most of the attention but I think Orgeron has a tendency to get tunnel vision. He never thinks he'll lose a recruit, which is good when you're a recruiter but not such a good thing when you're the HC. The HC has to plan in case the guy says no.

Either there "is" or "was" some interest from Michael Johnson Jr. Not sure if there still is.

We've been schizophrenic about what type of QB we want and what type of offense we're going to run, so I have my doubts what interest was there, is still there.

IMHO we should be recruiting 4 heavily. 2 ea on first-commit first acceptance basis. Gunnell & Tyson as one pair. Johnson Jr and Baldwin/Phomm/Quad (pick one and pursue) as the second pair. Double redundancy.

My fear is that we're going to run into a similar situation as we did time and time again like with Felipe Franks.

One of the 247 guys said a week or so ago that they don't even have a real 5 deep at the position yet. But he did say if there was an order of guys they are the most interested in it would probably be something like Gunnell, Tyson, Baldwin, and then Legendre.

Gunnell has been the only target for a while now, other offers are just "keep interest" "feelers" right now

Sounds like it's GG or bust for coach O. So like last year, with no backup plan, if he doesn't chose us, then who knows what will happen...

I miss the good ole days of recruiting:

JaMarcus Russell
Matt Flynn
Robert Lane

all in one class. I hate this putting all our eggs in one basket recruiting. Has really killed us over the years.

And this is what bites us in the butt every year. Time to quit promising the recruit we will only recruit them at that position then have the recruit back out a week before signing day.If we miss out on a top flight QB this year then LSU will in deep trouble in 2/3 years

They all want to be "the guy" now. Only the programs that are pumping out 1st and 2nd round QBs are able to lock up 2 solid QBs in a single class these days.

I know, but he was a commit to LSU for a good chunk of the 2002-2003 recruiting cycle.

The point is, we didn't put all of our eggs in just Robert Lane. We kept recruiting. First with Matt Flynn then with JaMarcus. It was trying to get the best talent together, convince the QBs that were receptive, and then let the competition play itself out.

What resulted was we had a solid QB situation from 2004-2007.

Indeed, that is the point. Made in several different ways.

We're all saying similar in different ways AND we've seen the results from "the guy" style of recruiting. Within reason, the rankings shouldn't say who priorities are. Especially QBs considering the productivity of non-transfer QBs since JJ/Lee.

I'm NOT saying that 3* should take the 5*'s spot. I'm saying, as a recruit, that low 5* and high 4* should be interchangeable for the most part. They are too close in ranking and evaluation to say FOR SURE that the 5* is going to be better than the 4*. It's somewhat of a crapshoot, and you're still better off with the high 4* than nothing.

A graduate transfer will want to start in his last year of school. He would be dumb to transfer in just to sit out the year. Don't get your hope high on a graduate transfer. O's options on QBs are very limited.

I don't have any way to prove this, but after seeing Surtain and now Gunnell play out, it seems like O may think that maybe we won't get Gunnell if we begin seriously courting another QB.

If that's the case, that's ridiculous. I don't know why seemingly all of the attention has to be spent on Gunnell. He knows we want him badly, and we could use two QBs in this class anyway. At some point we have to hedge our bets. We're being too desperate.

Tyson from the state of Alabama seems to be interested and we seem to be favoring pure passers than the dual threat types, at least this cycle. I'm sure they realize the importance of getting a quality quarterback or two. None of us really knows how the coaches are playing this, but Gunnell seems to be the bell cow they are aiming for, obviously.
