I still remember how early Dorsey committed. He knew he would be an LSU Tiger...something I wish more would do, instead of looking at college as a stepping stone.

Don't you look at college as a stepping stone to YOUR profession? I know I did. I chose the best college that would set me up as the most qualified candidate for my professional field. So does everyone else.

I went to LSU because I wanted to go to LSU since I was a kid.

Then you have a different set of prerogatives than others do when selecting an institution.
(Not that yours is right or wrong).

Well, when you treat a high school kid who is 17 or 18 years old like he's the second coming of Christ, ya kinda can guess as to why they don't commit early........national TV exposure, recruiters bowing at their feet, acting as if the KID is doing the SCHOOL a favor...remember when getting a scholarship was considered an honor for the ATHLETE?

yea things have changed, I wonder whats it like once you join the team and realize these guys are 3-4 years older than you more experience, bigger/stronger..trust me they are not kissing your arse.

Both he and Favorite were top 5 DTs and Favorite waited until the end to commit. Who was better?
Enough said.

so, youre saying there is a correlation between date committed and production?

There are still a lot of players who do this...Chris Davenport and Michael Ford to name a couple

DJ Fluker did the same with us. Hope he turns out to have half as much impact as Dorsey did.

The only bad thing is that if we only recruited people that bled purple and gold, what would we talk about the rest of the year.

Kudos for your honesty, and different strokes for different folks, but if my kid says to me one day, "Dad, though I'm not an athlete myself, I want to attend North Dakota State University because they have a bitchin' hockey team", I'm going to tell him that's not a good enough reason for me to open my wallet.
As I've gotten a little older, I've realized that education is everything. A run-of-the-mill guy with a degree from Harvard will earn triple that of the average Nicholls grad. LSU is an above average academic school and nothing to be ashamed of, but if you could get into a more prestigious academic program, you damn sure better go for it. You can still be a die-hard Tiger fan while writing term papers at Stanford or Duke University.
At the end of the day, for the prospective future NFL baller or pre-med student, what you should be making your choice on is what college will set you up the best professionally. You gotta realize that being an LSU superfan doesn't feed your kids or put clothes on their backs.

Wouldn't put him in the same category as he was a lifelong Texas fan.

Will he start next year at KC?
