Thing is no one really knows if Caleb will commit if nuss already is

Except we do. There's an article on 247 with direct qoutes from Williams saying LSUs staff and UGAs staff told him that he was tops on the board and they wouldn't accept a commit from any other QB before he commits. UGA didn't hold up their end and Williams didn't like it. He even mentioned it in that q and a that was posted here. So therefore that tells you matter of factly that he would not commit here if we took Nuss' commitment. Could he change his mind? Sure but is the chance worth it if he's the top guy on the board? Basically eliminating yourself(obviously from an outside perspective since we don't communicate with the kids as fans).

I like Nuss and don't think taking him would be a bad thing at all. I just don't think he's better than Williams and since it's pretty obvious Williams is the top guy on the board, why settle when you're still in the game? That's defeatist. While our fans carry that trait, I'd hope our staff doesn't.

You're right. Why take a 4 star CB that wants in when Surtain says he's going to commit? Stupid fans. Or lets ask some of our committed 2020 players to look elsewhere bc we are leading for bigger fish? It's not like we got burned by Jarrett, Burton and Burch.

If Williams has the stones he shouldn't care if Nuss commits. Come to BR and win the job.

Just bc Williams said that doesn’t make it true. Recruits can say all kinds of stuff and often do.

Coaches aren’t allowed to comment on specific players and typically don’t disclose a lot other than generalities when it comes to recruiting.

Again, Williams has said nothing to indicate we are his leader, at least not publicly.

Unless someone knows the kid personally, its all speculation given the inconsistency of his actions and words. I’m aware all this is typical recruit gamesmanship, but all I’m saying is hopefully the coaches have learned to stop being held hostage by silent commits and promises of 18 year old kids who aren’t “ready to announce their commitment”

I think you take really good players when they want to commit. If Williams is elite and has the right mentality, it wouldn’t be an issue. The fact that he needs to be pampered like this is a red flag imo. I know that will hurt a lot of feelings here, but can y’all imagine Joe Burrow saying he’s gotta he promised the job? Or that he’s gotta be shown he’s gonna be your top priority? No, he just wanted a chance to compete. Come compete.

Hopefully our coaches will truly adopt the view that If a player isn’t publicly committed then he’s not committed and if a guy is committed and keeps taking visits then treat him like he’s not committed.

We’ve been burned each of Orgerons 3 years as head coach by his trust in silent commits. Do not hold your program hostage for any one player. That’s essentially what Williams is asking people to do. Good for Georgia for saying screw that. If we’ve got top notch quarterbacks who want in before Williams, then he will have to get over himself and deal with it.

A scholarship from LSU is a privilege. Let’s act like it from a recruiting standpoint

The coaching staff knows far more than we do regarding the status of both Caleb Williams and Garrett Nussmeier. So I'm going to trust their judgment. In fact, we have no other choice in the matter. Not to mention that they have far more experience in handling these matters than we do.

Inconsistency? You're reaching.

Pampered? Again, reaching.

You don't know if there were any promises made.

I agree with you on this.
After 3 years of playing these games and being on the wrong end, I hope o has learned his lesson and take the sure thing.
And it isn't defeatist, sometimes it's just the correct move

If Caleb Williams commits to LSU, he will redshirt in 2021 in what in all probability will be Myle's Brennan's final season, unless Brennan heads off to the NFL early, which is highly unlikely.

Then in 2022, to become the starter he will have to beat out Peter Parrish, Max Johnson, and TJ Finely. Hence, one more QB shouldn't make too much difference.

Indeed, if he is not afraid of competition, then he should not care too much if Nussmeier also commits to LSU as one more QB to beat out for the starting job beginning in 2022. If he is confident of his talent, then it should not make too great of a difference for him.

Not to mention is Nussmeier going to be big enough to be able to start in 2022?

What do you guys think?

That was 2 years ago.
Nobody’s taking this from Brennan in his senior year.
And don’t be surprised if he goes NFL after one year. He’s that good. You just don’t know it.

Because this staff has got burned many times already doing exactly what you mentioned here. Evans burned us, Surtain burned us, we told guys committed to take a hike because we felt confident better guys wanted in and we didn't even sign a full recruiting class.

You take the commitment from the guys who want in especially if you don't feel like the gap is that big on the board. Don't know if that's the case here they very well might feel like Williams is a huge gap on Nussmeier.

That was impressive. He throws with good velocity and touch. It's hard to tell since it's a highlight video from their team, but it looks like his team won the competition.

That’s kind of hard to predict.

Regardless in this situation, in my not so expert opinion, I would take the one that wants in first. They both look like elite prospects and I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

We lost out on possibly getting Etienne by playing those games.
