The 87 team was Stovall’s senior class, the man was a great recruiter and was working his arse off, he was not a great coach but he was getting there, I believe if he had been given more time we would have had long term success.

Stovall’s last recruiting class was 1983. The 1987 team’s Stovall recruits would have been 5th year seniors. His collapse at the end of 1982 and the 4-7 1983 season were too much to overcome.

Johnny Hector story: new Iberia playing opelousas high. Opelousas high had stud cornerback. All week long opelousas coach told cornerback that Hector was fast, don’t give him the edge. First play from scrimmage Hector beats corner to edge an goes 80 yds for td. Opelousas coach is furious. His stud corner walks over and says : Coach, you aint lies, that mutha is FAST. Lol.

I'm not sure what is meant by the title in the OP but assume it's referring to LA natives that left the state.

The ones I remember were:
Terry Davis - from Bogalusa (?) and was Bama's first wishbone QB.
Tommy Wilcox - played DB at Bama
John Fourcade - played QB at OM under Steve Sloan
Billy Cannon Jr.
I think there was a lefty QB from Sulphur that played QB at A&M in the mid-70s. David ?.

Another one almost in state was Paul Ott Carruth from McComb, MS. Bear recruited him to Bama.

Finally, to correct some misinformation. Jerry Stovall was an excellent recruiter ans a class act, but was in over his head as a HC.

He was became HC after the Bo Rein tragedy. His last class finished in '86, not '87. "87 was Arnsparger's first class.

He was a good dude. Broke his collarbone his freshman year. He never quite seemed the same on the field after that.

I ran into him on campus (in the quad :lol) that year, I recognized him but didn’t say anything, we didn’t run in the same crowd in HS and only casually knew each other. He actually called out my name and asked me how I was doing , we probably talked more that day than we did in 4 years of high school.

That left me with a different image than the big man on campus that I had of him in HS, though he honestly was not really haughty in HS, just reserved a bit. Probably because most of the 2000 plus students at Acadiana we’re always pestering him. He always seemed to be smiling though.

What about the LSU to Tulane fight for Tyrone Vaughans back in 1983. Although Vaughans turned out to be nothing big in college. He was something in high school.

...Johnny Hector. Top running back in The South in 1979-80. From my home town of New Iberia. Was supposedly committed to LSU...then I believe something happens to one of his brothers, I believe, like jail time...then he backs out and goes to A&M.

Long time ago but thought it was a fake kidnapping of a cousin to ensure he signed with LSU. May be wrong but that's what I remembered.

What about Ivan Zenon back in the early 90's? I thought he was an LSU lock and then all of a sudden he signs with Tennessee. I always felt like Tennessee came in with the satchel at the last minute. It ended tragically as he drowned right after signing.

Yea, I remember a 6 ft. 4 inch DT from Mandeville that was going to LSU. His uncle was his legal guardian. Hallman had him or so we thought. Mysteriously he ends up at Tennessee. A banking friend to us that out of the blue his uncle's bank account receives 20K. Bingo.
