We need to go after one of the speed burners at Cincinnati. They have 2 guys who have been clocked at 4.29. I saw one of them take a screen pass 60 yards to the house. The chase was over at the 40.

UNC is a sleeping giant in CFB.
NC has mediocre high school football and 4 teams in the acc in that state to recruit it. Not to mention big schools come in and take what they want if there is a great player. Unc is not going to spend Tennessee levels of money on their football program to recruit nationally. No football history. Just do not see them as a sleeping giant.

They have NIL money to spare, they’re a national brand but there’s a lot of talent in the Carolina’s, GA, and VA. They have good facilities that are getting better and it’s a great education. Plus, they have way more things working in the favor than Clemson. So if Clemson can’t be a national powerhouse than UNC certainly can.

It would be really difficult for UNC to sustain being a national powerhouse and I say that in all fairness. Hell, my kid goes there so I fully support them. They certainly have all the capability to be a top 25 program yearly but no way in the world they compete with the likes of LSU, Bama, UGA, OSU, etc....on a consistent basis. Just my opinion.....

Shouldn’t you be doing all this on a North Carolina Recruiting board?

Unfortunately, the NCAA clearly has zero ability to enforce tampering
in the present climate, there is no longer anything like "tampering". technically, NIL is paid out by people in the community with little to no ties to the school. thus, they cannot "tamper".
i would love to know if anything like contact with another regarding the transfer portal is in the fine print of any of these existing NIL contracts.
the ncaa signed its own death warrant by allowing NIL with virtually no regulation.
to bring it back to the OP......LSU will be a big winner in this coming offseason. no, i have no insider information. new/stable coach. solid season. national positive reputation. LSU will receive more calls than they make. Great time to be a Tiger!

Agreed, I don’t see Drake going anywhere.
Not to mention, Bama has recruited excellent at the QB spot for the last five years….

Mayes ain’t leaving UNC. His daddy played quarterback at unc. He was their qb when they played in Tiger stadium in 1986. I actually talked to him before the game and he told me his spawn would be of greatness and that there would be this portal of freedom but fear not, his offspring would never enter the land of temptation

Coach Kelly is building a program and culture here at LSU.
I think the it will be very interesting to see how Kelly handles the team culture aspect with the influx of transfer portal prospects.
Based on everything we hear, the culture of the program seems to be a very high priority for him (as it should be; I think this is something we’ve been missing for quite some time). So it’s not just about taking talented players, it’s about taking high-character talented players. How do you evaluate a player’s character during the madness that everyone expects in December?
Last offseason we saw mostly a combination of players Kelly had previously recruited, upperclassmen who were known leaders, and kids with strong ties to Louisiana. These weren’t 5-star underclassmen looking for greener grass.
So when the portal madness starts, does Kelly take character risks because they’re too good to pass up? It’s a lot easier to evaluate character when you recruit a kid for 3+ years in high school. You have a ton of conversations with the player. You know his family. That’s a lot harder to do in a month. It’s damn near impossible if everything is being back-channeled before the portal window starts - you’re relying entirely on second-hand information. And Kelly may not have any recruiting history with a lot of these kids.
Personally, I think our pool of transfer prospects will be limited for that reason. At least in the short term while Kelly builds a history of SEC recruiting. But I could be wrong.

You don't think the guys they're going to look at in the portal would have been guys they evaluated out of high school? They're not going in blind on any situation.

I do think those are the guys they’re going to look it. My point was that it may mean the pool of realistic prospects is smaller than we think.
It comes into play especially when we talk about (for example) the exodus people expect from aTm. How many of those guys had enough interaction with our staff members for someone to be willing to vouch for them? Kelly and Polian may have been on some at ND. House was in the NFL. Denbrock was at Cincinnati. Frank was at McNeese, but he’s Frank Wilson so who knows?

Davis, Cain, and Hankton are probably the guys most likely to know these players. It comes down to A) who is in the portal that these guys (or anyone else on staff) recruited and B) are they confident enough to give Kelly the warm/fuzzy?
All I’m saying is that it would be a different situation if Kelly and the majority of the staff had already been here for a year or two, competing for all of these exact same players.

I agree with this. I think there’s a fair amount of talent evaluation that can happen based on film, measurables, etc. but the character piece really requires some sort of relationship.
I would not have put it past the previous staff to ignore the second part, which is why I brought it up.

Winning teams aren’t going to be losing many of their top end players. It’s funny how people like winning even if they aren’t on the field all the time.
