I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that lower “ranked” players can have big impacts.

Looking back at LSU’s 2017 class. LINK

CEH - 3 star
Justin Jefferson - 3 star
Racey McMath - 3 star
Jontre Kirklin - 3 star

CEH has emerged lately totaling 481 yards, 5 TD, 5.3 yards per carry. Many believe he’ll take over the majority of the snaps as we move forward (I do as well). Top RB.

Jefferson has balled out. 453 yards. 2 TD. Leading wide receiver by a large margin.

Many are excited about McMath in certain looks. And we’d see more of him if we had more TE’s (O has said this).

Lastly, Kirklin appears to be #2 PR guy which you know in order to win that spot over others has shown better hands and athletic ability in practice. I like O’s confidence in him.

I am suggesting that 3 stars can make major contributions.

Shout out to all of our 3 star current commits!

Geaux Tigers!

It's refreshing to look back at some of our lowest ranked non-specialist over the last few recruiting classes

2018 - Dantrieze Scott - Once he gets his legs under him in the college game, I think he could be a very good player for us. Has the size and athletics ability to be a great contributor.

2017 - Justin Jefferson - Our leading and most reliable receiver as a Sophomore.

2016 - Lloyd Cushenberry - Our most consistent OL on the team and has been great for us this year. Could turn in an All-SEC year before he leaves.

2015 - Foster Moreau - Wears the coveted #18. Team leader and really good TE that is underused.

2014 - Russell Gage - Turned into a great #2 receiver his senior year and is on an NFL roster now.

It can also be depressing to look at all the four stars that never amounted to anything or transferred.

You can post all you want about 3 stars and stats they've had, some people will never understand and just see the "3 star" and immediately bitch

Several of the low rated recruits were late offers and have panned out. Intangibles mean a hell of a lot.

I don’t see this thread as the ridiculous 3 stars are better than 5 stars narrative some pull. I see it as just a positive comment on some of our recruits that were not as highly touted. Picking the “correct” 3 stars is where coaches prove their worth in recruiting and development.

This is obviously true, but 2017 was the deepest class I can ever remember and a total anomaly as far as early playing time for lower rated recruits goes.

The 2018 class has some 3 star contributions as well. While LSU would always prefer to get the best players sometimes the rankings are wrong and the coaches are there to make those decisions.

My point has always been that LSU recruits plenty of 5*/4*/3* recruits to make a playoff. Yes even the 2018 class has plenty of good players to help us make a playoff run. People need to quit complaining and just enjoy recruiting and the potential these guys have.

We can and will win with the mix of players we have now and coming. When we start winning and making playoffs, then LSU can start landing the big time 5* and 4* players across the board at every position. It doesn't just happen. There needs to be some consistency in what these big time recruits see from LSU especially with our own dumb fans harping all offseason.

We need to get behind this program, staff, and team so this damn narrative is broken for good.

Chasen Hines is a 3 star but looks to be best O lineman this year after being switched from DL

3* skill players are usually just as good as 4* stars in other states.

Glad we have those kids

Hines was a solid 4* on every recruiting service.

Not really. Other than Lewis, none of them have really played at all. And Lewis was a 3* because he was a guard coming out of juco.

This isn't a knock on the 2018 3* guys. I think some of them are going to big big time players for us. It's just rare that 3* guys contribute early and 2017 is an extremely rare exception.

loved the 2017 class. Most solid class top to bottom (actually there is no bottom) I ever recall in a LSU class.
Hope the 2017 is not just an aberration but rather a sign of things to come when it comes to talent evaluations
