So many people look at the numbers (w/o thinking about %s) arguing that recruiting ratings are BS and don't realize that they are actually making a point for the recruiting ratings. Good article

Serious question: How much do you think that being a high level 5-star recruit out of high school with the media coverage you receive in regards to your commitment and the fact that 5-stars almost always sign with high level schools with tons of media coverage affects the media voting for All-American?

I'm sure there's definitely an influence there, no doubt about it. That said, one can't "sleep walk" and ride their name into an All-American selection. You have to have had a pretty damn good season any way you slice it if you end up getting selected as an All-American.

I agree. I just think if you have a 5-star player at let's say Georgia is more likely to make AA than a 2-star player at Vandy even if they have identical seasons.

Yeah, but a 2-star player from Georgia is more likely to make AA than a 5-star player at Vandy ( ) even if they have identical seasons.

So I really don't agree with you.

At the same time, there were only 12 AA's out of 178 5-stars.

That is a pretty low success rate.

and it has nothing to do with name recognition and just being on a big name team. Julio Jones will probably be an all-american this year and will likely not even be the best WR in the SECW

yeah, I would take a class of all 5 stars, even if only one or two became all americans!

That's 1 in 15 including guys who could have been true FR and SO. Pretty good number if you ask me.

Thanks for the post and the number crunching. It makes your point despite what people will argue. It does however point out that there are a number of diamonds in the rough that a good coach can recognize and elevate his program because of it.

I think a truer test would be the same analysis/percentages but for all conference. All American is so exclusive. But 5-star players are almost supposed to be all-conference players, right?

All is say is they give out less 5 star rankings, and they are slightly more accurate. Also, you can't compare the 3 star AA rate as they were tabbed by these guys NOT to be one. They should tabulate their misses.

Honestly if you take out the name factor once they get tabbed I'd say this article doesn't prove a damn thing.

They specifically suck in picking 3 v 4 stars

Short version:

It's a numbers game. You want a lot of highly rated players, but getting hung up on one individual guy is probably a waste of time.
