Recruiting the transfer portal is a better path to success
_________
I think it is better to supplement good high school classes with key targets from the portal. Dedicate enough money to retain the players we want.

The kid is 16 years old, yet, many people in this region know about Haven. Some of yall need to chill out. Lol, I have been a die hard LSU fan since creation. However, even now, if I was offered money and a car to represent a business owned by ANYBODY, regardless of what ties they had to what school, I would take the damn money and the car. Haha, it's hilarious how people overreact to things these days. Haven got offered some money and a vehicle from a dealership, I'm sure it's not a huge sum of money, to be involved with bowers auto group and to get people talking about Bowers' dealerships. So what? It doesn't mean anything in regards to him promising to attend any school. He took some money and a car from an idiot that was willing to give it to him to promote his business and get his dealership talked about. Period. Apparently it's working too bc I had never heard of Bowers dealerships at all before this, and now, I know all about them, the owner and even what frickin college team he supports, lol. I don't blame him for taking some money and a ride from a duck like Bowers. It means nothing in regards to where he will be going to play college football.

I’m not in any defense of Matt Bowers, but I guy I used to work with is one of their GMs and an avid LSU fan. They gave DJ Pickett a vehicle for NIL. LINK
They also did a deal with Micheal Van Buren. This is really easy and cheap advertising in the car business.
This...100%.

What team has successfully deployed that model in any sustained manner? Teams have successfully plugged holes, but they have not built consistent winners primarily from the portal.

What’s your definition of sustained? It was 2021 before the current rules (no sitting out with transfer) took hold.
Ole Miss with Kiffin has elevated their program to top 5 in SEC using the portal to their benefit.

What exactly does Ole Miss have as proof of being a top 5 SEC program? A Peach Bowl win in 2023 over Penn St?

No CFP bids and no conference championship appearances. Is that the level we hope to achieve?

I doubt many blame Haven for taking the money. The complaints are more about Bowers and him trying to hide his intentions.
It remains to be seen if this has any effect, but you’re crazy if you think this isn’t meant to sway Haven toward Ole Miss, even if it’s all just implied and can’t be put on paper.

That just happened to coincide with Auburn and UF, both of which have been better programs for many years, being down and A&M having a two season swoon in 22 and 23.
Kudos to them for taking advantage of the opportunity, but let’s not pretend they will stay in the top half of the conference without some external factors working in their favor.
