LSUSkip wrote "I may have been the only one that had noticed, I seriously doubt it, but everything that has been done this off-season had been done methodically. Either that, or I'm way off and I'm seeing a pattern that isn't there. I almost expect an announcement from Smith or Wingo within the next day or so that one of them is returning for next season."
Instinct, NOT inside info, tells me that BOTH Maason Smith and Mekhi Wingo will be back. Each really hurt their draft status this season. Wingo unfortunately played hurt most of the season until he wasn't playing at all due to an undisclosed "upper body injury" hidden until late in the season by Kelly. I wondered why his game had gone south. And of course as most have said here, Maason Smith was just out there...got no push up the middle and was a shadow of his TR FR self. Hope he recovers from that ACL but either he isn't recovered fully or never will recover fully. Jefferson played much better than Smith at DT which is why Jefferson played so much.

Surely he'll be committed wherever he lands.

Yeah if Smith and Wingo come back it makes more sense for him to leave.

Tygee was simply not SEC caliber. Wish him well.
That’s what bothers me.
That he didn’t pan out.
Brian needs to pull three portal DL.

I know, right?
It's the biggest news of the morning, & people just evade it

He has a lower body injury? Meniscus Repair?
Posted on 12/19/23 at 10:17 am to GMoney2600
Exactly give us some names?
Posted on 12/19/23 at 10:20 am to CBP3110
I don't have any names. I'm curious as well.

If 2 or 3 of 3 of Smith, Wingo, and Guillory were coming back, I was wondering what West, Hill, and Jalen Lee would do. Weren't many snaps for them this year, even when Wingo got hurt, and Jefferson was the only one we knew weren't coming back.
So now West and Hill are in the portal. I've got to think they feel good about at least 2 of Smith, Wingo and Guillory, hopefully all 3. But what's the word on Jalen Lee from Florida and why he barely played this year. Think I heard his name a bit toward the end of the year. Was he hurt or a whiff? Be nice if he was banged up all year and that's why he din't see more snaps. That'd be a big upperclassmen with SEC experience that nobody's really talking about because we kinda forgot he was even on the team this year.
Looks like he was a true JR. this year, so not sure if he played in 4 games or less to be able to count this as a redshirt year. Or he may have played a lot more than I realized. Regardless, he's got at least 1 more year. I'm curious about his role in '24.

The feeling I get is that he's purely depth. That was likely all he was going to be.

Yup. Gives you the ability to give guys some rest. He won’t get abused in the trenches, but he’s not really gonna pop either

We need to shed some players right now bc we are up against the 85 man limit in a way we havent been in a few years. We are adding 30 so far for 2024. We had around 50-60 coming back. Attrition has to happen for us to sign our class and any portal guys we want.
Posted on 12/19/23 at 11:20 am to LSU1215
This makes sense. Hill just doesn't have the ability to play
at a major SEC level. Good luck to him.

We aren’t filling any of the defensive holes. I know there’s time but would be nice to get the talented replacements. Not just what’s left over. Our defense may be worse next year than this year. No excuses anymore. This will be the 3rd HS recruiting and portal cycle.

However, we are losing DLine players without getting more.
What the hell is Brian saying to where Overton and Nolan are basically gone?
Same with last year. FSU either ponied up or sold Fiske and cypress.
I know just two guys but the goodies are running out.
Does Brian trust the April second round of portal?
