LSU recruiting is not staying at the level of Ohio State, UGA, Bama, or even a few others that will remain unnamed (you all can provide the names).

lsufanva has made this quite clear, and he's right. If we want to play with the "bigs" then we need to step it up a notch. Otherwise we'll be leveling off near the Auburns of the world. Not a knock on the War Eagles, but they'll never compete for the big prize again.
And, I do believe we have the upper hand in development, but we need 3-5 top top studs every year. I want LSU to always win win win, but something needs to change, and soon...

You better start paying up and finding others that’ll do the same. This is an arms race and the money does most of the talking.

Kelly took a team with 39 scholarship players heading into spring ball and beat a loaded bama team littered with 5 stars
We’ll be fine

No need for anyone to downvote

College football has become pay for play and the richest will separate themselves.

No need to be upset. This is what everyone wanted isn’t it ? For players to make their money openly ?

Not sure what people thought was gonna happen

Well our alumni base needs to get richer I guess? Can’t blame Kelly or anyone else but the fans themselves (and the assholes who promoted NIL)

Yeah we’re going to become Auburn after we just won 10 games with a roster sticking together with scotch tape.

You probably thought the same with baseball and Jay Johnson

5 Stars at LSU -
11 - 3
12 - 0
13 - 0
14 - 4
15 - 3
16 - 2
17 - 1
18 - 1
19 - 3
20 - 3

Don't know the past few seasons. I do believe LSU bleeds quite a few 4 stars as of late

So here's some names: TX, Okie, aTm, Michigan, USCw, Oregon, FL (lately)...

We should get Rocco’s bar to do a Recruiting Jello Shot Challenge and put the money toward NIL. LSU fans will buy 70,000 Jello shots, but won’t put a penny toward NIL.

My biggest gripe is how do Bama, Georgia, Ohio St. wrap up 5* recruits so early. Always seems like we have to wait til the very end of the recruiting cycle and FIND OUT if they select us or not. Meantime go to recruiting sites right now and Bama, Georgia, Ohio St. and even Fl St. already has been time commits. Not knocking our product on the field but we have a legit coach and some great faculties right now. I guess our bagmen ain't carrying heavy enough bags.

I disagree I think y’all are missing the big picture. We seem to be putting more eggs in the transfer portal basket then going all out for high school recruiting. We aren’t the only school trending this way. There have been signs nation wide that this strategy might be the way to go in todays world or is at least a viable option. At the very least you have to combine the transfer classes with the prep class when looking at roster talent. I’ll take the 6th-10th rated prep class with the 1st or 2nd ranked portal class over a top 3 prep class but little from the portal. Loading up on top 5 classes every year won’t be what it was 5 years ago. Kids aren’t staying and sitting in the world of free transfers and NIL. I believe y’all’s thinking is outdated and I believe Kelly’s first year showed that and his 2nd will cement it

Brian Kelly has literally stated that relying on the transfer portal isn't a viable long term strategy and that a program is built and sustained through standard high school recruiting.

quote:

“There’s a gap there. When you’re taking 10, 11, 12 transfers from the portal, that’s a red flag,” Kelly said on the Paul Finebaum Show on Thursday. “You need to be developing your players. You need to be doing it through freshmen that are in your program, developing the process.

quote:

“But, I would say that we’re guarded at this period of time as to somebody that’s going to make a difference in an LSU football lineup. These are probably going to be guys that can add depth to what you’re doing. I don’t think you can go out there swinging for, you know, a starter that’s going to come in and change the trajectory of your starting lineup. These are guys that can contribute and be part of your depth, and I think that that’s kind of what we’re looking at.”

He wants high school players, doesn't want to build a program through the portal, and only uses the portal to build depth in areas that are thin.

This idea that we're not going "all out" for HS players because we're focusing on the transfer portal is absolutely ludicrous.

I'm pretty sure the guys who bought the majority of those shots are also the ones providing the most money towards NIL

I see a lot of the same schools in that article.

Georgia, Ohio state, Alabama, Miami, Ole miss and Florida st.

All are heavy into nil with collectives.

On one hand people will say nil isn't as big a deal as people make it out to be. The other is people saying it's all nil.

I get what you are saying. It isn't just about 5 stars but the lack of top 100 talent being recruited.

I don't know any player right now that is committed to LSU that is a top 100 player.

I don't think that has ever happened and people blow it off saying it's early.
Yeah it's early but this trend needs to change and in a hurry.
