You have to sign top level OL consistently if you want to compete at the highest level and I think that's where LSU is coming up short.

And daily threads rehashing the same topic over and over will solve that problem?

We also got the number 1 juco tacle 2 yrs ago and he was terrible

If you are talking about the "Guard", he was part of the number 1 OL in the country in 19, started as a rookie, and made All Pro rookie team.

New definition of "Terrible"?

He's talking about Badore Traore, who was a JUCO 5*.

I and others warned the star gazers here before he even committed that he had a very long way to go and didn't move well enough to handle the rushers in the SEC. 1 of those stars was for height and wingspan. 1 was for weight. Under it all he was an average 3*. The rating services don't know how to evaluate OL.

In the end we did some very quality snaps out of him and he was extremely valuable for us because when we needed him late in the season he was ready. Had to adjust protections for him to protect his outside and he did improve, but in a crunch he worked out just fine.

He’s also in the NFL, or was earlier in the season.

yep, Bears.

He came a long way, but he had a long way to go. That JUCO didn't do him any favors really.

His footwork was the only thing "terrible", as the other poster put it. He was the poster child for "lumbering". But once they improved his technique combined with his size and especially length, he could make up for it enough. And his footwork did improve; just not a lot of natural ability there to change the world.

Whoa---Nice Shootin' Tex!

It would be great to sign 1-2 5 stars offensive lineman every year but it isn’t a requirement to have a top offensive line either

Absolute blunder on my part! The complete meaning and context of the sentence did not register because my head exploded when I read the "it isn't a requirement to have a top offensive line" part. Leading to my bewildered: "How can you honestly say that?"
Know that I am the last person to say 5 star kids are a prerequisite to having an elite line. Come to think of it I'd be very surprised if you could find a mention of star ratings in any of my posts. I'm a big fan of line play on both sides of the ball. I'm also a big Lombardi fan: "Blocking and tackling wins football games and the foundation of the team is the line".
All that said---good catch on your part. If you ever want to push my buttons, just post that OL/DL aren't important!

I'm with you.
His improvement was because he took coaching, absorbed it, and executed on the field. He has physicality and some athleticism but why he's on an NFL roster is his ability to learn and apply. Maybe he'll never be more than an emergency back up but the dude has intangibles that are valued in a team atmosphere.

not the song you were thinking.

The first cut won't hurt at all
The second only makes you wonder
The third will have you on your knees
You start bleeding I start screaming
