He has a lot of knowledge, HOF credentials in the recruits home and loves LSU. He will be as good or better than Faulk coaching his position. LSU needs to do this sooner rather than later. LSU is at a crossroads of becoming the next Fla State due to lack of addressing the most important needs of any football team. High recruiting classes without 5-6 highly regarded Olinemen every year is just fluff. Miles lived off that idea he was a good recruiter....thus his demise. O will go the same way if he doesn't wake up to reality. Mawae is his best chance to have a coach that is respected and valuable to a recruit. Leigh's own words basically said that is what was missing at LSU...no respect for the OL coach. That is obviously why he can't sign anyone or enough numbers.....he is not respected. Change or become a Seminole program.

I don't know if Coach will give Craig the axe. He did a pretty good job 2 years ago with thw Oline injuries last year was more about JB and CEH making thw oline look good.

Two things are true:

LSU needs to recruit better on the OL

You are a moron.

Let me ask you guys something. I’m new to all this tread stuff. But If Mawae was LSU’s Oline coach; do you think he would’ve recruited Makaneole?

What would it take? How about Mawae going out and getting an OL Coaching job and proving that he is good at coaching? You know, something that he has never done in his previous career.

The knock was that he hasn't coached. He now has some experience as an analyst and TE coach. Is that enough? I honestly can't say and do not know. Being a great player does not make you a great coach. That said, he checks every other box. He bleeds purple and gold, is one of the most accomplished linemen in LSU and NFL history and the guy just has a presence about him. He would be a slam dunk recruiter and a positive force on this staff, on that I have ZERO doubt. But the biggest part of being the O line coach is being able to, you know, coach. If he can, I would absolutely love to see him here.

Mawae should at least be as good an OL coach as Cregg.

And I think Mawae would be a better recruiter.

You thinking isn’t enough. He needs to pay his fricking dues and prove he can do the job. All of the job.

Let him come here as an analyst and work his way up.

That has never stopped a lot of people from taking a convoluted thought and emphatically state it as God's honest truth.

Based off what? Your emotion after losing a recruit?

Does it compare to Cregg and his Super Bowl ring with the Broncos and National Chpionship ring with LSU just last year?

Here we go with the same stale argument to hire someone with no experience... I don't care if he's an alumni and HOF... I've coached more football than he has and I'm not near qualified to coach at LSU

you mean like Faulk?
He has forgotten more about offensive line play than Cregg. Good grief....playing is far more be beneficial than working your way up as an assistant at anything. btw....Mawae has been coaching...at Bears, and ASU.

Then why isn’t he the OL coach at Arizona State?

This just isn’t true.

Being a good player doesn’t mean you’re a good coach.

You mean the guy that spent two years here in an off-field role before getting promoted to RB coach?

He coached one season as an assistant OL coach with the Bears and wasn’t retained. He’s been an analyst at ASU for 3 years. He was interim TE coach last year but is back to being an analyst this year.

Look, Mawae is an all-time great Tiger and by all accounts is an absolutely awesome person. I would love to see him wind up back at LSU. But right now there’s zero evidence that he is an effective OL coach. I would take him as an analyst (again, the same role he has at ASU) in a heartbeat and see what he can do.

But expecting LSU to go hire him as OL coach - when he’s never had that role and isn’t currently working with our staff - is a little far-fetched. The only way I see that happening is if Orgeron reaches out to Herm, and Herm gives him a glowing recommendation.

So let me get this straight. We’re coming off of not only a National Championship but a year where out line won the Joe Moore Award saying they are the best O-line in the nation. We’ve made it through a Pandemic that has been everything but normal. And he has 2 guys returning who could easily have left for the draft. And you wanna replace him. Should we hold him responsible for how many TDs the Defense allows as well? Sheesh, some of y’all expect a championship every year. Thank God none of y’all are in charge, you’d run off every coach we hire before they ever set foot on campus.

I also can’t imagine Cregg is being fired if all his linemen are coming back.
