re: Do we have any shot of flipping Chris Allen?

Agreed that we need to cast wider nets. But see without an expanded recruiting staff, lack of shadow staff and having less overall resources than Bama we have much less margin of error. So we take the focused approach on two or three per position instead of the wide range focus. That can change if LSU devoted more resources and start hiring former coaches as 'consultants' / recruiters. Have to get bodies to cover ground while we cast the wider net:).

Stevens and as for Fournette he was a "luxury" and didn't REALLY want him "because they had Henry".
They didn't need LF is so true. I say this because Henry won the big trophy and sucks as a RB. If Henry can win a trophy at Alabama that just proves any RB can with their OL.

Great reply. I agree LSU has to effect change to compete.

You can't have an "expanded recruiting staff." People serving in an administrative role can't have an active role in recruiting players, and absolutely can't go out on the road. We got an exception for Austin Thomas this year because of Jenkins, but a vacancy in the on-field staff or similar NCAA-approved exception is the only reason that would be granted.
Now, "shadow staff" guys can help scout players and determine who should be targets. But the way Saban is typically using those guys is to help his on-field coaches prepare for opponents by breaking down film in-depth.
Finebaum talked about this in regards to Washington a few weeks ago. He said Saban had over 30 people breaking down every play Peterson had called as a coordinator and HC over the last 10-15 years to spot patterns and put together tendency outlines for the players. That's what a good shadow staff can really do for you.
All that said, I agree that LSU needs to invest in expanding and improving their administrative staff so that they can take burden off of the on-field staff, and deliver this kind of data to them.

BTW 105.3 in Monroe is NOT carrying the LSU football game.

I've been saying for over a year now that Moses wasn't coming to LSU (even when he was committed) and that he would end up at Bama. I am close friends with the father of one of the Catholic BR running backs (next in line behind CEH) and he has always said that Moses' father had his eyes set on the NFL and Saban/Bama was the best coach/team in his and Dylan's mind to prepare Dylan for the league.
Crazy considering LSU has a better track record for professional longevity
Saban and bama burn these kids up more often than not

There was a time when Moses' father was quite opposed to sending Moses to play for the angry midget. Unless he lied to me on repeated occasions. Circa grades 8,9,10.

This is where the direct value of shadow staff is reflected. This is how Saban's defense is always so prepared.
However, the indirect value is that over time, the headline coaching staff is freed up to spend much more time and effort recruiting. Saban expects his staff to be expert and relentless recruiters, but he helps enable their success by employing the shadow staff to help scouting and game planning.

There is a green substance that has a proven track record of changing such opinions.

I understand we need ILB but we put ourselves in investing so much into this player(Allen) instead of offering other ILB. No I wouldn't invest anymore time into this guy, learn from this and move on. We need to breed competition at LSU we miss this point on this board because we get emotional after a LA kid choose Bama.
I'm just looking at it from the perspective of odds. We just offered an uncommitted guy from Florida, but chances of flipping anyone new at this point are remote. We have a connection with this kid, we have PT available, and we have a DC who made a big statement yesterday (I know, so did Bama). If there is a shot, they need to see it through to the end. A philosophy change will have to start for next year's class.

Definitely agree with you here. This is exactly why the athletic dept needs to step it up and make us competitive when it comes to support staff.

Years ago I played with a guy who was a big time national recruit, from his own mouth he told me that LSU and ND were the most straight up schools and bama and the school he chose were the dirtiest, I am sure bama hasn't gotten any better and I feel bad for some of these kids that Saban takes just to keep a rival from getting them, bama has at least two inside lb recruits better than Moses but Saban would rather him be on the bench there than be on the field against him.

Been saying for 4 years. Even the day Moses committed to LSU.
