If Ash(who was at the camp) committed, then nobody would have complained. The coaches came away more impressed with Blackmon than they did Ash. We got at least two stud DT last year and Hicks may end up being pretty good as well. I do not think there is cause for concern just yet.

2009 DL recruiting

Brockers - #10 SDE
Davenport - #4 DT
Downs - #14 DT
Hicks - a top juco with good size
Logan - #33 WDE
Montgomery - #6 WDE

Mingo Possibly DE eventually with great athleticism.

2008
Aghayere - #10 DT
Clement - #7 SDE
Edwards - #42 SDE

2007
Aubrey - #21 SDE
Corley - #4 SDE
Nevis - #9 DT

We are not at all slipping.
For Reference
Tyson Jackson - #14 SDE, and gets drafted #3 overall. Haley knows what he is doing and will make these guys succeed.

Many services had him listed as an OT. I too think we have a ton of talent on the DL, somewhere around 17 players this year will be playing on the DL. About the same # as most teams in the SEC.

Bc it may not be a definite that he would switch to them.

Exactly, Aub/Bama has basically told the kid they dont want him. IF i were blackman, if they came in the picture only after LSU offered, I'd say f'em

To the others questioning LM on this issue, LM has more football knowledge than every poster on this board combined. So if he's good enough for LM he should be good enough for the fans

IMO

I'm not saying u cant criticize at all. Just sayin when it comes to judging talent, im going to trust the judgement of the coach who gets evaluate him personally over a messageboarder who admits they havent seen him play.

there are tons of good players who fly below the radar. Too many people are starting to believe in Scout/Rivals like the bible.

but there are plenty of coaches who get paid to judge talent who also suck at it. by your philosophy, we can't say anything negative about them either

well the thing about blackmon is that nobody had even heard of him + bama/au have evaluated him in person and passed. his only offer right now is troy also

The part about Bama passing on him is somewhat debatable and even harder to judge because there are no real reports about his performance in either Tuscaloosa or Baton Rouge.

What a dumb rule from Slive.

Rivals is based in a office building outside of Nashville much like any other small company. Trust LM!

That is at odds with the claim that Bama was about to offer. It will be interesting to see if he does indeed get that offer.

I think some of you over estimate the talent evaluation process.

You could take the people that follow recruiting very closely, the high school football coaches, and former players (college) from this board and sit around a table after watching highlights, game film, and camps and come together with a pretty damn good "board of prospects."

Especially when you are talking about a school like LSU that elite kids from around the country are dying to come play.

The real area that coaches are able to separate themselves are the 'marginal' prospects that they see loads of potential in. Even then, they are still wrong much of the time.

Making the board of prospects when you have such a large budget for recruiting gives coaches everything they need to be able to be successful.

The real issue is can they lure the top prospects to commit?

If they can, then they are successful--if not, they are fired.

Dont worry once it gets closer to signing day LSU fans will start saying "he reminds me of insert favorite LSU DL"

Well...that wouldn't be a far stretch. Les Miles told Blackmon himself, that he reminds him of Glenn Dorsey because of how quick he gets off the line. Do I think that?...probably not, because I've never seen him play. I know some coaches say these things to kids to get them to commit, but most of those are high profile recruits not sleeper prospects.

Said by Max Emfinger: "Emmitt Smith is not big, he's not fast and he can't get around the corner. When he falls flat on his face at Florida, remember where you heard it first."

Some of the newer guys do ok, remember they may look at 15 mins. of film and judge a kid. I always ask coaches in the area to judge kids or I go first hand.
