Can we get him to stay? With a little coaching, he might be a very serviceable RB next year.

We don’t need serviceable, we need studs!

With Williams' knee getting scoped, Goodwin coming back from an ACL and Emery likely done (maybe he stays, but if he hasn't sealed up that job by now he's not going to), Davis has a real shot to wedge himself in as a contender for the starting RB job in the spring.

He's crazy to leave before spring is over.

If that's the case, we're in trouble.

I agree, our RB talent/depth is a big concern, as the o line should take a big step forward next year. I started watching lsu during the Faulk Era, I don't remember a time we were so lacking in RB talent. Maybe a Fr can play next year but it'd be nice to pick up a guy in the portal

no it's not. We saw what our RBs did this year behind a below average OL. If Davis can pass up all those RBs, LSU is in great hands.

Josh Williams vs
Florida 14 car 106 yards
Ole Miss 17 car 76 yards
Bama 7 car 54 yards
Arkansas 19 car 122 yards
UGA 6 car 55 yards

Williams if fully healthy would have easily been a 1000-1100 yard rusher for LSU with a high yards per carry average. If Davis can pass him, we are going to be elite at running the ball next year. Kaleb Jackson, if he's fully healthy, could also steal the show as a true freshman.

Nick Brossette ran for 1000 yards on a 10-win LSU team four years ago. Why would you say we're in trouble if Davis was to win the RB job?

I thought he looked pretty good today, looked athletic, good vision, tough runner. I wanted to see him more, could really add some needed quality depth to that rb room especially if he has a good offseason.

Great burst, and powerful on that TD run.

Agreed. Williams may not be flashy, but he is a hell of a back. He’s great with YAC.

There is no reason that our incoming freshmen RB's can't make a big impact.

We’ve had years with as poor or worse backfields. Remember how mediocre we were in 2003 before Justin Vincent? Remember the 90s before Faulk committed?

The difference is, all of our meh backfields in the more recent past played behind far better offensive lines. I would rate most of our backs this season ahead of Nick Brosette, but he still ran for 1,000 yards.

As for talent, we actually have that in Goodwyn and Emery. Unfortunately, they just can’t fulfill it for different reasons.

I hope Davis stays. He’s looked good when he’s had a shot at some carries.

I wonder what happened to him playing safety? If memory serves, he was a top 5 safety nationally coming in. Then he disappeared. Anybody know?

Kaleb Jackson looks the part. He’s physically ready to run the ball it will just be the other parts that hold him back

He has size and a good burst. He looked bigger than anyone on the Purdue team that played.

Yeah but if he does want to get with new team it's better for him to go thru spring practice with that team

Even Coach O talked about putting him at RB due to depth concerns his first season

You sound like the guy, who preseason, was saying Williams is only a "Walk On".
Williams was the best running back on the team.
Lets see what Davis can do, in Spring Practice, before we judge.
He was a higher rated running back recruit than Williams.
