Those are just words with the amount of money Oregon is capable of giving him

It sucks but this is the reality of CFB. The rich will succeed while the rest will “build the right way”

I was told by this board that Underwood isn’t coming here for NIL, he just really wants to play for LSU.

Has that changed?

Phil Knight wants to see a National Championship at Oregon before he dies and has given Oregon unlimited funds for NIL. That’s the rumor.

Sorry to inform Phil Knight but it’s not that easy in college football. Just ask A&M how it worked out for them.

I will become a baseball only guy

You don't think the EXACT same thing happens in baseball? The only difference is, unlike football, MLB is involved in negotiations for baseball prospects.

I have a close friend who has a relative who currently plays major college baseball. That friend happened to be on a family vacation last week, which included the baseball player. As you know, last week was the deadline for baseball players to enter the portal. My friend shared the events with me.

A few days before the deadline the baseball player (let's call him player A) is texting with his teammates. In those conversations, Player A learns that one of his teammates who is already in the portal has chosen to transfer to a different school (let's call him Player B). Player A is not in the portal and doesn't intend to enter. However, Player B tells Player A the coach at Player B's intended new school has told Player B he also wants Player A and another one of their teammates (Player C) to transfer to the school as well. Player B is telling Players A and C what the new school has agreed to pay him and what the coach/chairperson of the NIL collective said they would agree to pay Player A and C if they also chose to transfer.

Player A doesn't necessarily want to transfer. But he is seeing his team kind of fall apart around him and he becomes worried about being the only guy left on a potentially bad team. So he starts to consider putting his name in the portal before the deadline just to keep his options open. Player A (and his parents) then contact their "agent" to discuss things and the statements made by Player B that Player B's new team wants Player A too. The agent then reaches out to the collective chair at Player B's new school to investigate. Sure enough, Player B was telling the truth. So now there are discussions being had by Player A's agent with the potential new school.

As part of those discussions, the agent contacts the collective chair for Player A's current school to let him know what is going on and that Player A is at least considering a possible transfer now. The coach at Player A's current school learns of what is going on. He then contacts Player A directly and tells him essentially "if you enter the portal you won't have a spot on our team any more and you won't be welcomed back."

At this point Player A is not really sure he wants to transfer. All the while, his agent is negotiating with the collectives of Player A's current school and the potential new school. Player A is still not in the portal at this point. Nevertheless, is potential NIL deal is going up. Now, another school who previously recruited Player A learns he may be considering a transfer because Player A mentioned it to a friend who currently plays for that school. The coach at that school now jumps into the mix. Now there are multiple discussions being held by Player A's agent and multiple schools. In the meantime, players at both of the schools are reaching out to Player A to try to get him to transfer to their school.

The deadline to enter the portal is looming. Player A is still not sure of what he wants to do. However, he wants to keep his options open...so he enters his name into the portal. Now, it is still possible Player A's current coach softens his ultimatum and Player A remains at his current school. But that doesn't seem likely.

In the span of appox. 2-3 days Player A goes from being set where he is with no plans to transfer to in the portal and likely transferring...all while his agent is navigating a bidding war and increasing Player A's NIL deal.

It can happen that fast, and the players are constantly trying to recruit their friends to different schools.

At end of day if these guys want to play in nfl they need to see the field
Oregon would need to prioritize the qb they want otherwise they are paying nil for two qb’s with one not seeing the field

Already has for me. I've since pivoted to other sports that I've only had a more passing interest like professional soccer. It has a global interest and there's clear set rules on money/finance.

College football was already a world away from their respective universities BEFORE NIL. Now it's simply one big joke.

The handlers and such run things behind the scenes like adidas/nike run the basketball world.

They might as well have a pay schedule compared to the NFL. There would be rookie contracts with all making the same pay. Year2,3 and if you go to year 4, then name your price. They have to get some stability. It has to come down to fairness. Loyalty to a school

lol by my count, you've posted about it 32 times in the past week. Your account wasn't even created until after NIL had been legal. Seems like you're not really losing interest; you're just bizarrely salty about kids having the ability to accept the money that people are willing to pay them without facing punishment.

When has there ever been fairness in college football? You think it's "fair" when Grambling has to come play us in tiger stadium? Should LSU be hamstrung so that it *IS* fair when Grambling plays LSU? If not, then why should some other team be hamstrung so that things are fair to LSU? It sounds like you're just mad at the outcome, not at the actual process you want to regulate.

In any event, let me get this straight: You don't like the free market; what you like is government-mandated "fairness" in markets? Because that's what you're advocating. (if the ncaa tried what you propose, itd get struck down in court in a millisecond).

Doesn’t he have to visit and talk with Oregon first? Before the panic comes?

You come off like a bit of stalker lol

No I’m not salty about players being paid. It is what it is. I think there needs to be some regulation and coupled with open transfers, it just doesn’t seem like a sustainable model to keep most fans interested. It’s just pro ball.

There’s got to be some rules in place. Even pro ball does for goodness sake.

Sorry that opinion hurt your feelings.
