When is the final date to declare?

I hope he gets an offer so the Chs fans will shut up. I've said it before, if we take him then great, if we sign someone else and don't take him I'm fine with that too.

I would really like to see us sign either Oliver, Marquise Williams, Driskel, or Uzomah.

Here's a thought. Suppose they like Oliver enough to offer, but they also have several other guys higher on the board. You think the coaches have forgotten about Storm Johnson?
As good as Oliver may or may not be, we are in good shape with a lot of elite QB talent in this class. Plus we may have a few less spots to work with than what is typical.

My opinion (they are like assholes and I have one) is we don't take any QB commits in 2011 if Lee doesn't go pro baseball.
And if we do offer Oliver or any other QB, it's a greyshirt.
Why? Because LSU has in it's backyard (the state of Louisiana) the best class in it's history. With LSU lacking good defensive tackles the last 2 years, we need to take at least three. I'm not counting Quinten Thomas as a DT, but as a DE with Rasco. We need to take Freak Johnson, Mickey Johnson, and Hunter. With the number of DE offers LSU has out there right now, its a cinch that LSU wants at least 2 DEs.
Spots are limited this year to possibly only 22 commits that can be taken. LSU needs WRs, CBs, LBs, OLmen (only three taken last year) and especially DTs (only three taken the last 2 years) and Davenport (according to some reports) may not pan out (move to OL).
Freak is a top 3 DT, Mickey will be top 10 in DTs by February, and Hunter will be top 25.
At QB, LSU has Lee & JJ for the next 2 years. Garret for the next 4 and possibly Lee for the next 5. QB is not that important right now. I maintain that sweeping the bumper crop of LA in 2011 is more important than a QB.
However, I realize than many will disagree and I respect that.

So, you think LSU should wait til everyone else offers to legitamize LSU's offer. DUMB!!!! Why not trust in LSU's talent evaluators?
Posted on 4/18/10 at 7:30 pm to BilJ
When he leads Catholic to the state championship, he'll get offers from LSU, Alabama, Texas, Florida, Ohio State and USC. My prediction.

No way. We need a QB in the 2011 class.

He is a great grey shirt candidate.

I think Lee making it to campus or not may have a huge impact on what happens with Oliver... that being said, being a state player I'm definitely pulling for Oliver to continue to progress and be better than the others on the board and earn the scholly

Unless we can land two elite targets from around the country in this class (unlikely, IMO), then Oliver offers a very Matt Flynn type prospect that will be able to be groomed for years into an excellent player.

I think he is a very good prospect that passes the eye test. His family is friends with my aunt and uncle, and they say that he is a big LSU fan that has attended games for years. I would like him to come to LSU along with another out of state QB (possibly one that's more of a duel threat QB)

Personally wouldn't mind taking him only after we get a elite QB in this class.
LSU must get a big guy in this class at QB. Too much concern there. JJ/Lee will both be gone next year. If ZL makes it to campus, will he even stay in Football? Is CG even progressing?
We need a elite QB in THIS class. Wouldn't mind getting one of the huge dual threat guys we have on our board and then offering Oliver. I'd say taking 2 QBs in this class isn't out of the question, even if ZL makes it on campus.

Can someone explain to me why Oliver is not one of these elite QBs, i've watched his film and he looks like a great pocket passer.

Watch the other films at guys higher on LSU's board and then get back to us.
Just maybe we have a reason why we haven't offered him? Not taking anything away from him...but until he starts showing something LSU likes, he'll continue to be down the board.
That could change with some camp or combines but right now hes not high on our board. Or any major college board for that matter. Plain and simple. Can you honestly say Oliver looks better than Bridgewater on film? He has speed, athleticism and decent throwing mechanics with a arm. Oliver is not a complete package like that, he simply doesn't have what they do...
He could be a bust and Oliver turning out to be a stud...but the % favor goes in the "elite" QBs. They're elite because they have what others can't compare to. Lower risk taking a elite QB, period. LSU shouldn't have problems getting one considering how desperate we are.

Things do not look good geographically for LSU to take an elite QB in 2011. The Arkansas kid will probably go to OU or Fayetteville. All the other "elites" are on the east coast. Sam Montgomery is the only guy that I know of that was "elite" that we have taken from the east coast. Yes, LSU has landed some "whales" at other positions from Florida and you could possibly say GA, but never at QB.
Looks like a longshot...so you better be happy with Oliver...that looks about as good as it is going to get.
Sorry for the reality check...

What I can't figure out, Is if we are in such need at QB. Why would we land the number one DT QB. Not redshirt him or really use him, Then move him to WR.
Posted on 4/19/10 at 8:34 am to Flatyger
We will sign 2 and maybe 3 QB's in this class. We need to beef up the most important position on the field.
