The thing about only carrying three running backs is running into an issue like Texas had this season. It worked out well for them with their third string qb but that doesn’t mean it would work out every time for every program
Texas was a way more dire situation, they took their 2nd string QB and played him at RB, and actually it worked out.
They just had no RB talent behind Ingram going into the season:L
- Daniel Young has always been just terrible and a nobody
- Kirk Johnson didn't have 1 carry for the last 3 years prior to this one
- Jordan Whittington was the guy who got hurt who they were counting on being Ingram's backup who was a 5-star
I know Young and K. Johnson got banged up prior to season as well but they both were nobodies who were never going to contribute anyways.
So Texas really only had 2 RBs they were expecting anything out of (Ingram and Whittington) and Whittington got hurt, which forced Roschon Johnson (backup QB) into being the backup (which worked out well for them).
I think our situation would be a lot different with TDP, Emery and Evans. You would expect to see all 3 used a good bit and all are top of the game type talents.

I would just like to know if we are going after a 5 star qb. That will keep us on top

By that measure, we need an RB in this class.
Which is why I mentioned Evans several times.
The question is if we lost Curry to transfer as well as CEH to draft, do we need to get TWO guys this class to make at least 4 on the roster next year.
In my opinion, no we dont, because we hardly use 2 as it is. Curry hasn't had a carry since Utah State and Emery has sat the last 2 games himself getting just 1 carry against UF and 2 vs. MSU previous to that.
I think we can operate with 3 very good RBs, lose one to injury you still basically have 2 very good one and we're barely used to using 2 right now.
I think no doubt we'd add 1 or 2 in the next cycle to carry 4-5 the following season. I just wouldn't want to push out a very good player to simply have 4 RBs on the roster next year in exchance for probably a really really good player off the commitment list as it is. I mean we know at least 3 guys, probably 4 already wont be a part of the class that are currently committed, when you potentially add a 5th to that to take a 2nd RB to make 4 RBs next year, I mean, really starting to get rid of someone you dont want to at all.
I have no issue kicking a QB to the curb if we landed someone like DJ, but that's replacing a QB with a better one. When you add a 2nd RB, you're talking about replacing an OL/DL/LB/DB/WR type commit, so it's a different exchange.

And Derrian Brown had a stroke, and he probably would have been ahead of Roschon at RB
Also, Roschon was 3rd string QB, not 2nd

Where is all this smoke about getting another QB commit coming from?

DJ U’s parents and brother came on an official visit for Auburn I think it was. (Remember, Dabo does not allow his players to take visits once they have committed. Or so I’ve heard). That would explain why he “wasn’t” here with them. Also remember that it is apparently pretty common for the parents to choose where their kid goes to college in their culture.

Come on Tbird...I know you don't think carrying 3 scholarship tailbacks is sound roster management.
Shite...having only 4 would make me a little nervous. There isn't a free agency market as Texas found out this year.
Injuries, drug suspensions, grades, any number of issues can leave you paper thin overnight.

Just wild to me how Van Pran wouldn’t want to be here. This is the best place in terms of winning and lack of depth at center. Some just can’t wait to leave home.

One thing to consider would be the skill set of the RB's. Having a RB that can catch passes exponentially increases the variables the defense has to account for.

That and Athens is an unbelievable college town/experience. And their OL coach is extremely popular and an elite recruiter.

I’ve heard the same info from an extremely reliable source

Achane would be a major weapon to add to the arsenal of we can fit 2. Don't see any way Evans and Gibbs both come in. But Bama does have 2 committed and both have looked there.
