Combined Recruited Personnel Score 2006-2011

Here's how I got the score for each team, using LSU's 2009 score as an example.
Here are LSU's classes from Rivals from 2005 to 2009 in terms of stars...
_______5-star__4-star__3-star__2-star
2005_____1______7______5______0
2006_____2_____12_____11______0
2007_____2_____19______5______0
2008_____2_____11_____13______0
2009_____4_____11______9______0
Before totalling the following modifications are made. As it takes time for players to develop, I gave a 2-star penalty to players in their first year and a 1-star penalty in the second year. In addition, a fair number of players don't make it to their 5th year (either by not red-shirting or going into the draft early). So I included a factor of 0.7 to account for a 30% attrition rate.
So here are the modified numbers and the totals.
_______5-star__4-star__3-star__2-star
2005____0.7____4.9_____3.5_____0
2006_____2_____12_____11______0
2007_____2_____19______5______0
2008_____0______2_____11_____13
2009_____0______0______4_____11
TOT_____4.7___37.9____34.5____24
Now assuming that teams will be keeping their best on the field most of the time, I'm only counting the full value for the top 22. As backups play a significant amount, but not nearly as much as the starters, I'm counting the next 22 at 60%. The third string only sees mop-up, but they do get called upon when injuries occur, so I'm counting the third 22 at 20%.
So, first string = 4.7 (5*) and 17.3 (4*)
second string = 20.6 (4*) and 1.4 (3*)
third string = 22 (3*)
So, LSU's score for next year would be: 1.0* (4.7*5 + 17.3*4) + 0.6*(20.6*4 + 1.4*3) + 0.2*(22*3) =157.86
I did this for every team to get scores from 2006 thru 2011. If there weren't enough players to fill out all 66 spots, I filled in with 2-star players. Note that there may be some changes to the 2010 and 2011 scores as the next to classes get signed.
And I aslo looked at conference averages while I was at it...
And made a graph of the BCS conferences for good measure...

During the entire time you were making that chart and conducting your statistical analysis, I was sitting on the sofa in a dirty shirt picking my nose and scratching my balls.
Nice job.
Nice job.

This is excellent sir. It says what we all know implicitly: The SEC is the best conference far and away in terms of talent.

Thanks, bro- I appreciate that. Yeah, I didn't want to rush it. I take my picking and scratching very seriously, and since I eat what I catch, I like to look for the big fellers in there.

Come on now, dreaux... That assumes you even exist, and I'm not so sure about that.

I think the system may be flawed (Florida St. should have 2 or 3 NC's and Miami too)

It does look like FSU and Miami have been doing less with more. I think you can break the job of coaching into 3 areas: recruiting, player development, and game management. As FSU and Miami have done well in recruiting, it must be one or both of the other two that is holding them back.

BTW, the hardest part of this was loading the raw data into a spread sheet. Now that I have it there, I should be able to make other calculations pretty easily (time permitting).
I don't intend to workout and post every random request, but if there a consensus on something that everyone wants to see (or something that I find interesting), I'll pop it out.
