re: Charles Hannigriff doesn't think highly of this class so far

We needed oline and dline depth badly. Only 6 on roster from 14-15 classes. And kids like Nelson Jenkins who teams like Bama came after hard and he dominated at the opening are head scratchers to me. He is a 4* on ESPN but only 3* on 247 and rivals. He should have been a 92-95 across the board imo. Also Cole Smith. Who is number one C in nation but rated a 3* ?? Those two should have us n top 10!! Cole has similar measurables to clapp.

Oh great, President of the Orgeron fan club has arrived. You’re either a Bama fan or Derek Poamsky.

Well if he said it then this must be one hell of a class.

So UGA is all done and isn't going to sign anymore 5 stars?Uh no.

He's not totally wrong, LSU had a top 10 class under Miles but finished 3rd in the division behind Auburn and Bama. Both those teams went on to win a national title, LSU came runner up.
Of course the rankings don't tell the whole story, but when teams you play every year out recruit you, don't be surprised if you lose to those teams once in a while.

Who is Charles Hanagriff and when did he become a talent evaluator ?Cmon guys.
Posted on 12/20/17 at 11:51 pm to Bottom9
Consider the numbers. In 24/7’s top 100 recruits, only 11 are OL, 9 are QB’s, and 5 are RB’s. On lsu’s 85 man roster, 19 are OL, 4 are QB’s, and 7 are RB’s. Far more skill positions receiver fanfare and attention, which naturally creates a ranking bias toward them / away from OL. So, no matter what, our class will necessarily end up ranked lower than other teams who try to fill sill roles.
I think OL are much tougher to evaluate based on tape because not all of the minutiae that make up a great offensive lineman are gonna jump out at you on a HS press box camcorder.
This year’s class is deep at positions of lesser needs for LSU in 2018—especially at S, CB, LB, and WR. I think this year’s strategy is gonna pay off in a big way.

When did most of the morons lauding this class become talent evaluators? “Errrr curry looks better than a 3 Star to me based on the YouTube highlights I watched”
People here are doing mental gymnastics to praise this mediocre class. “Hey we filled needs so that’s why it’s not highly rated” as if you can’t fill up your class with needs and have them be highly ranked.
Not only has O not upped the recruiting game as some swore he would upon hiring, but Mr. Louisiana himself may not even be able to lock down the state.

What do you care about it? Let the man work his plan. Why do you care how the sausage gets made.
Maybe he thinks he's the next Dabo or Stoops and can identify lower rated guys who will produce on the field. I mean, it is about producing on the field, right? Clemson and Oklahoma regularly have classes ranked in the mid teens, but regularly finish in the top 5. The guy we had before regularly had top 5 classes filled with flashy guys and regularly finished the season ranked in the mid teens or lower.
If Orgeron fails, then you should be thrilled because he'll be gone. He doesn't have THAT long to get it done, so just be patient. Barring a total flame out next year, he'll have at least two more years. I think if we're not competing for the West by 2019, we should move on.
Ask yourself, would you rather LSU win, or would you rather be right about Orgeron being a bad hire?

I would rather be right about Orgeron being a bad hire. Over the long term, it would be good. No use dragging out a bad hire. Cut our loss and move on.

Fans expected Orgeron's classes to look like Kirby's classes at UGA - loaded to the brim with elite talent. If we had Georgia's current class, our fans would be praising Orgeron as the best recruiter in the country (and deservedly so).
But since we're barely in the top 15, fans will resort to excuses. Hanagriff is praised as a pragmatic voice who isn't afraid to tell it like it is - yet he's now getting personally attacked on this board because people want to believe that this is somehow an elite class.
Orgeron has been here for 3 years, and most of our coaching staff has been here for the past 2. There's no reason why our current class shouldn't be in the top 5.

Really don’t know why some of you bother to post. You know more than the coaching staff, you evaluate talent like pros, and you could second guess god.
Actually you’re miserable douche bags who don’t know shite and get off raining on the LSU parade. Thank you for your attention.
