This worries me though that the 2 best players in Louisiana and both DT's have yet to commit. That is now 5 DT's. Either the position is filled or O thinks he can still get 2 more and make it 7

We don’t play DTs, so they’re gonna have move to either NT or DE. Neither of which really shine stat-wise in Aranda’s system. I know O has gotten a bit of flack for not recruiting DL like we’re used to, but I honestly think Aranda’s system plays a pretty big part in that. DT just isn’t that glamorous now. We’re not gonna have Glen Dorsey’s winning national awards in the 3-4. On the flip side, we are recruiting more elite LBs who, like Devin White, will.

The 3-4 may be a more effective defense, but by its very nature, it makes it tougher to snag those typical All-American type DTs who shoot gaps and rack up sacks and TFLs. What O is doing this cycle is pretty fricking amazing.

Maybe Aranda's system isn't built for D-Lineman to shine. However, we haven't really had a true NT. So, hopefully we'll see this year.

I don't buy that his system asks defensive linemen to do anything different than any other 3-4. I think we just haven't had the level of playmakers to be as disruptive as we'd like.

We saw flashes toward the end of the year and Lawrence was an absolute stud in the bowl game. I think the line will shine this year and put this narrative to bed. We're going to be solidly 2 deep at every position and all of the guys will be playing their natural positions. Remember, last year, Feheko was asked to play a lot at nose. I think this led to him carrying more weight than he should have and also to him wearing down as the season progressed. This year, he should be exclusively at end.

Finally, we're going to have 5 guys who will be draft eligible after this season, so they should be motivated to show out and improve their draft stock

Bama runs a 3-4 and they don't have any problem recruiting All America type DT's and rack up sacks and TFLs. Has nothing to do with Aranda or the nature of 3-4 defenses. Has to do with the players. When we start getting those disruptive DT's like we use to have they will start being disruptive again.

I hope he comes,... but if not we'll do great with what we have. We won our last NC with good serviceable backs, not All-Americans. The OL is what we need. I'll take Clayton with Van Pran All Day Long.
