He's a fellow American. You and I may disagree with him about China, but I have little patience for people who pretend to be patriots but actually hate a whole bunch of their fellow countrymen.
I had a family member recently tell me "I hate Democrats! I just hate them!" and I had to tell her that it's impossible to love your country and hate 40% of the people in it. People like her who call themselves "patriots" love a fantasy America, a pretend country that doesn't exist. To actually be a patriot, you have to love the real America, a country that sometimes votes for Democrats.
