Once again, I believe there is every indication he will NOT count against the 85 limit BECAUSE he is the son of an LSU system employee and will get most if not all of his college expense paid for.
It doesn't really work this way. He's a recruited athlete and will likely count against the 85 no matter how his enrollment is paid.
There are NCAA rules concerning counters that prevent teams from getting around signing and scholarship limits like this.

How did the roster get to this point? Feel like it was just yesterday there was only like 60 scholarship players
Being able to go over 25 in a class. Still took a couple years but it would have been a 5 year process previously.

My understanding is that a preferred walk-on (a walk on that is recruited, but who is guaranteed a scholarship when space is available) doesn't count against the 85 scholarship limit until he receives his scholarship. Until then he is a non-scholarship athlete and can participate without affecting the 85 scholarship limit, but does affect the active roster limit which is higher.

Not quite correct, there is no guarantee of a scholarship, just a roster spot without having to go through walk-on tryouts.
quote from linked article:
"A preferred walk-on offer means the coach would like you on the team but can't offer any financial assistance at least for the first year. Preferred walk-ons can earn a scholarship going into their second season, but nothing is guaranteed. Preferred walk-ons arrive at college with a roster spot guaranteed. They get help with admissions. Aid does depend on the sport. They can be cut at any time in camp. While the preferred walk on does not receive athletic scholarship monies, they do receive free gear and uniforms."

I’m sure the 19 four stars will welcome him in.

just want to know if he's officially on scholarship or not
If yall like him as a player why would it matter.

Bc we can add another player if he isn't on scholarship. It's what's best for LSU.

So we just signed a 5 star defensive lineman and a 5 star running back…..we have more 4stars committed than anyone else….
And this is your comment?

I don’t think it’s strange at all that the son of a current and longtime high ranking employee in the Athletic Department is getting a scholly — even after A. Ausberry’s initial spurning.
