Peyton's girlfriend went to Virginia and they later ended up getting married. A guy i used to work closely with ended up working in the athletic department at Virginia and he got to know Peyton because he would come to UVA to visit his girlfriend, in the spring and summer. Thats the connection to Virginia.

My dad hated LSU with a passion, particularly for how they treated Archie when had a broken arm.
This is the second time I have heard someone speak of this on this board.
The story I always heard was that when Cholly Mac retired Archie's family was quoted as being grateful for how respectfully they treated the wounded Archie throughout that game.
I have rewatched the game. LSU kicked the living shite out of Ole Miss as a team but seemed to take it easy on Archie.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

LSU, Clemson, and Georgia are all going to be big factors. I'm sure Ole Miss will be involved, but I'm not sure how likely that is to work out. Every major school in the country will try to get in there.
Uhm...the only ACC school that was listed was Duke. Why you have Clemson in your list?
The Manning family are big SEC fans. They are not going to the ACC and the only reason why Duke was included was out of respect for Cutcliffe who is going to be too old if not retired.

- Georgia, some people have mentioned they have an outside shot here, but I don’t really get it that much. Sure it’s a good football program, but I don’t really see a scenario in the Manning’s sending Arch off to be at Georgia, especially when you put in the distance factor instead of staying at home and playing. Kirby is a good recruiter, but Georgia is still unproven offensively, and hasn’t had big game winning ability. X
I have no clue what the kid is thinking, but Georgia just seems like a contender to me. My reasoning:
1. Georgia is a premier program that is a contender year in and year out.
2. The Manning's have no connection to UGA, so he wouldn't be burdened with following in any relatives' shadow.
3. Athens is undeniably the best college town in the SEC, and one of the best in the country. While far, it's a quick, direct flight from New Orleans.
4. Also, Georgia is a solid and well-respected school filled with well-to-do kids from all over the Southeast. Simply, the Mannings don't strike me as the type to send their kid to a place like Arizona State, Miami, or Louisville.

Side note:
In the late 90's, I went to watch Eli for a game at Newman. I was openly talking with a buddy about his chances of going to LSU.
Some redneck in front of me butted in our conversation with "He ain't going to LSU. He's going to Ole Miss. That's a done deal." I quickly realized he was an Ole Piss fan who made a long trip for a HS game.
He added "We got a young RB that's about to tear the SEC up, too. His name is Deuce McAllister."
As much as I hate to admit it, he was right on both accounts, even tho I didn't ask for his opinion.

An earlier poster quoted Archie as saying that he wouldn't influence the decision but that's a poor choice of words. Maybe he won't actively try to influence the decision but Arch knows that he's an Ole Miss guy. There's true hatred and there's the more playful sports hatred but if it came down to LSU or Grambling Archie would have to flip a coin and Arch knows it.

He left Tenn because he saw the writing on the wall. USC has a huge amount of resources and how they continue to suck is baffling. He completely failed there and he failed at Tenn. With LSU/Bama in the west what makes you think he has any chance at historically awful program to turn it around there? He hasn't proven anything except at a coordinator level. He's a good OC and recruiter that's about it. He'll bolt before the ship sinks just like he did at Tenn.

Arch will go his own path. Book it. Wouldn't be surprised if he didn't pick the Tigers.
He'll look at the best fit for him. Period...

The schools on the list will probably not me the only schools on the final list. There are a few national powerhouses that have been faltering a bit in recent years that will be there if they are trending in the right direction. There is an irony that Arch is mature enough to know he does not need to get consumed by concentrating on the battle to land him. He is enjoying where he is as he should be. He also wants to take back some school records for the Manning family lost two seasons ago. That being said, he is independent enough that he may want to look for life outside of the SEC.
I do know that with Eli and Payton there was a lot involved including evaluating the OL and OL coach at each school as well as RB and WR development in addition to QB development. This family lives and breathes football and could give a clinic in these kind of evaluations.

One positive for LSU, Archie helped influence Ole Miss to hire Ed Orgeron from USC's staff. Archie & O are friend's. (However, Archie did give the thumbs up when O got fired, too.)
I'm actually more concerned with Cooper's influence over where his son goes.

At this point, Archie has even figured out that the problem was Ole Miss not O.

Never see him in P&G. Archie says so

A&M iirc
Added irony, if Peyton goes to A&M in 94 his OC would have been Steve Ensminger.

I was little kid, but my dad was there and said that some LSU players twisted, pulled and banged on his broken arm after the play was over etc. I was big LSU fan growing up ( my parents divorced when I was 5) and I lived in Baton Rouge. I ask my dad once my he hated LSU and that’s what he told me. Archie shouldn’t have even been on the game, LSU was beating the hell out of Ole Miss and then they tried to rebreak Archies arm. I think my ole man was more pissed off than Archie was.
( I remember him (Archie) playing with us all as kids at Ole Miss married student housing once and that’s really it. ) Oh, and I broke my leg and he and bunch of cool Ole Miss players signed my cast. I was going to keep it but it stunk too much. And I remember my dad thought Coach Vaught was a prick. Lol

Cooper Manning was just on 104.5 and was asked point blank & said Arch will make his own decision & the family will support him

Cooper was just on 104.5, was asked if Mannings are open to let him play at LSU. Cooper said they are open and supports their kids going to any school. Cooper mentioned LSU just got Walker Howard and LSU has it going good right now.
I didn't get any resounding confidence in his tone, but that's me and it's still early.
