Any interest in RB LJ Johnson?

He's the top rated portal RB and from what I remember, LSU was pretty high on him coming out of HS. I saw a Wiltfong interview and he named a few schools including OU and UCLA, but not LSU.

Maybe we aren't interested or he's not. Just curious if anyone has any info.

We have six rbs at the moment with the option of getting Davis the safety as one too.

Seems the spots should be used for DB and DL.

John Emery sr
Armoni Goodwin jr
Noah Cain sr
Josh Williams sr
----Kaleb Jackson 5-11 200 fr
----Trey Holly 5-8 195 fr

Obviously it can change in a heartbeat.

Why? They can use them for them and here. A top shelf RB is a need. There's no limit on how many we can sign. You get whatever good ones you can and then sort the roster out later.

Was hoping Le’Veon Moss would be in the portal at this point. Surprised him and matthews seem to be staying put.

There is a limit.
Unless I am just misunderstanding you, if you signed three more running backs, that takes away spots you can allot to the other positions of need.

LSU needs DL so we aren’t playing 3 guys for 90% of the plays.
Additionally I’d hate to lose out on a DB in the portal because we now have 8 rbs.

You hit 85 one way or another.

From his scouting report:
quote:

Solidly built with naturally lower center of gravity to provide for prototypical running back stature. Combines impressive big-play ability with high-volume grind. Consistently shows good lateral foot quickness and can make defenders miss in the hole. At his best as a downhill hole-puncher with one-cut explosiveness. Run leverage is good and compounded by functional strength, particularly in the lower body. Verified top-end speed with a 4.42 40 that dates to sophomore year.

Could be that breakaway back we are missing.

Yes, you need to get under the 85 but there's no limit right now on how many we can sign to get under the 85. There's still a lot of processing going on trimming the fat on the roster. Transfer portal is far from done on LSU's roster. Wouldn't be shocked if Emery is not here next year either. They're not going to lose out on anyone they feel like is can't miss in the portal. They will make room for them.

Goodwin
Emery
Cain

Are all at risk to not be on this roster next year. It really depends we'll see. I feel like Goodwin can be a top shelf RB but he's way too injury prone unfortunately. Regardless, LSU still needs an elite RB out of the portal. Not a depth guy a really good starting one.

I think we need a RB, but it needs to be a guaranteed starter/star.

We don't need to be taking freshmen or unproven players, as we have plenty of bodies.

Except, we need an explosive running back that doesn't have ball-security issues. A bell-cow. Etienne should be who we're shooting to bring in if there is interest. And he's still got 3 years to play.

He’s a backup RB. We don’t need more #3 RBs. We need a #1.

The only transfer RB I am keeping an eye out for is Etienne from FU. Very good all around RB.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing if Emery and Goodwin go elsewhere/somewhere (and I'm a big Goodwin guy) and Davis added gives us 5.
But - is either of the Frosh a threat to go all the way every time he touches it?
That is what's lacking in the RB room. Is it Davis, maybe?

I don't think he is even better than what lsu has.

On top of that better backs will pop.

I think Emery is going to get better with ball security.
