Jonah already had his when Blake Gideon took the GT DC job since that was his coach.

Doubtful, they just hired Duane Akina, who has coached 3 Thorpe winners.

Last Thorpe winner was in 2006 and he’s only had 1 DB picked in the first round in the past 15 years.

Six first-round picks Akina coached during his time with the Longhorns. Quentin Jammer (2002), Huff (2006) and Ross (2007), Michael Griffin (2007), Earl Thomas (2010) and Kenny Vaccaro (2013) were first-round picks. Like Jammer, Thomas was a finalist for the Thorpe Award, headlining a 2009 Texas defense that led the nation with 25 interceptions.
Akina recruited 15 NFL draft picks and eight All-Americans in his first stint on the Texas staff

Feels like a Bo Pellini type hire to me. I know his past was great but that was a long time ago. He's almost 70.

This, they are playing the nostalgia game big time with this hire. He will be 69 this season and hasnt been relevant in coaching in quite some time.
