quote:This thought process is so freaking stupid. Last year was the first time since 2017 that LSU had multiple RBs, with at least 20 carries, average 5 yards or better in a season. Emery averaged 5.04 in 2020 and Helaire averaged 6.6 ypc in 2019. From 2018-2021 only w times did an RB average at least 5 a carry with at least 20 carries.
We had one healthy RB in the spring, a true freshman.
The running back group, both last year and next year, is as bad as I ever remember it being in 40-plus years of following LSU football.
Where did this stupid fricking thought come from? I keep seeing it repeated.
Our running backs are possibly the weakest group on the team, along with safety.
Easily bottom half of the SEC, maybe bottom third.
This year we not only had multiple RBs average 5 yards or better, all of them had at least 5 TDs. Williams averaged 5.5 on 98 carries, Cain averaged 5.4 on 78 carries, Emery averaged 4.9 on 75 carries, and Goodwin averaged 5.9 on 45 carries. Then you bring in 2 true freshman.
So many of yall are sleeping on Kaleb Jackson too. This kid had a season ending injury in his first 4 touches of his senior season. Right now in track he just recently ran a sub 10.7 at 5'10 215.

quote:They are morons. We had 3 RBs average 5.4 ypc or better last season. Once since 2017 have we had ONE RB average that or better and it was CEH in 2019. As a matter of fact, this is the best rushing unit we have had since 2017. Helaire might be the best RB, but the best group was the one we had in 2022. Then these morons don't even add in Daniels running.
But the narrative that Diggs or Allen are head and shoulders above what we've got is not factual.
Can somebody explain to me the last time a team lost 4 RBs to season ending injuries in the same year? We lost one guy after 7 games and we had 2 more miss 3 games a piece, that's it. So many people are making a fricking mountain out of a molehill.

I think what they mean is that it is a big need on the Rant
Even the Ranters have a memory and recognize the need.
Every running back on the roster has missed several games due to injuries. Some have missed entire seasons.

Committed to Miami just now

LSU4Lyfe seems to think we’re getting Diggs and Coleman. Let’s see if we can crown a new insider.
Not looking to be crowned at all. LSU never went after Allen.

Always wondered why LSU never went after Ajay I saw a couple of his games when he played at Neville and damn that kid could play. He made some exceptional plays on passing routes for a running back.

Even worse.
RBs have been sub-par since Edwards-Helaire left.

Did you not read what was written above . We had 3 guys 4 players avg over 5 yards a carry last year and a 5 th in emery avg 4.9
Our backs haven’t been flashy but they produce

We may regret passing on Ajay twice!

When you're blind perception gets clouded. They have a high YPA because of JD. Now look at their yards/YPA in games he was hurt. There's your answer. Pay attention to games. Defenses keyed in on JD's running ability because it was elite. The RBs scared nobody.
Another classic example of stats do not tell you the entire story. What do you think defenses will do if you had a real threat at RB to go with JD's legs? Have fun with that. Sure makes it easier on the OC to gameplan and give defense fits too.

I believe we will when he tears it up at Miami. Wish him all the best though

The entire perception (and production) at the running back position would change if Emery could finally get his head on straight and be fully committed. It's now or never for him, so I hope he realizes that and takes advantage of it. I still have hope.
I'm also anxious to see what Jackson can do. It really would have been nice for him to enroll early, but hopefully he can pick up things quickly. I'm also excited about Holley and his progress this Summer.
We already have solid backs if they can stay healthy. We just don't have the guys, other than Emery, who are home run threats. I'm still optimistic that an improved offensive line and more experience in the running back group, with a year under this staff, will give the results we all want.

Goodwin is also a homerun threat.

Chalky, Goodwin may indeed be a home run threat (seem to remember a long touchdown run). Maybe my perception is clouded by the fact that it seems he seldom plays.

It is difficult to hit home runs from from a location not in field of play.. praying for a complete recovery!
