Jacob Phillips did not even receive a grade, indicating that he should stay “in a developmental league”.

Well if that's truly the case we'd love to have him back

What more can he do? He had 113 tackles last year and he's simply not a pass rusher or coverage linebacker. Unless the market for inside backers softens next year, his stock insnt going anywhere. Phillips is a finished product.

In a 4-3, he would be the mlb, right? That should play perfectly for him

Phillips had 87 tackles in 2018 (2nd behind Devin White 123) and led LSU in 2019 with 113 for a 2 year total of 200 in 2 years. 100 per year average for So and Jr seasons is very productive, however, he should come back and try to pick up his tackles to 120-130 and get 5-6 sacks. Because not getting drafted higher will set him back for his payday. A third straight dominant year and being a sr will get him drafted much higher next year

Hopefully no agent yet. If so, then he really hurt himself.

No it won't. He has put up great numbers for 2 years. That's all you need. At the end of the day, he doesn't have the physical abilities that the NFL is looking for. A senior year would do nothing for him.

What's he going to do though? Get 120 tackles and a sack or two again next year as a Mike in Pelini's system. How does that elevate his stock? He's a run stuffing middle linebacker who has nothing else to prove. Hes simply not athletic enough to play outside in the nfl.

Here's a crazy thought... Maybe Phillips is not NFL material this year or next, so he should stay in school and earn a degree.

Crazy right?

Just because a guy can't "improve his stock" any doesn't mean he should declare for a draft that doesn't want him.

What is the deadline to withdraw from the draft?

NFL may not be in his future. Everyone gets told “No, you cannot play this game at some point.”
He could look into coaching/athletic training if he wants to be connected to the game.

Its not about what more he can do...there is still a chance to get better especially under Bo...but now he has the choice of playing as a starter/leader of a defense vs probably not even getting on a pro team

He'll show up at the combine looking like Tarzan at 6'3 230. All he needs is a nice 40 time and not to blow the other drills and he'll be drafted. He could have a long career as a reserve MLB in the league. shite, look at Manti Teo.

As an LSU fan, I'd love to see him comeback too. For his future, it's not worth the risk of injury or possibly struggling in a new system when a good combine or pro day gets you into the middle rounds. Aranda was a linebacker guru, remember? Bo isnt going to suddenly turn Phillips into Devin White.

I'd have made your argument for Queen a few weeks ago, but now it looks like he's racing up draft boards.

The link also doesn't work.

Nevertheless, most draft analysts have Jacob Phillips being drafted.

Yep Phillips got bad advice. He could have made himself a lot of money coming back for his senior year.
