7th on On3 and 24/7
6th on Rivals

Alabama and Georgia consistently dominate recruiting, Georgia started dominating in year 2 of Kirby Smart. In the NIL world it seems we have even more competition with the heavy donor schools. I would think we stay in the 5-10 range from here on out.

We just got a new coach. Before you relegate us to some lower tier, how about we give him time to build relationships…

3-7 every year with the right roster management and good coaching equals national titles.

This isn’t going to be a well received post but if we want to be a consistent playoff participant versus a once every 4-5 years we’re going to have to do a little bit better. A lot will say that the difference between where we are and top is marginal, but that margin is getting an extra Harold Perkins. Over the course of a few cycles that really adds up.

BK did a god job getting some dynamic and core players from the HS ranks. I wouldn't get too hung up on rankings though until the transfers are included.

We've added transfer rated:
Denver Harris - 96
Aaron Anderson - 92
Paris Shand - 92
Swinson and Lee are not transfer rated yet

Hopefully we get some help at LB and DT in the portal and another CB. That would round out a very good class.

Playoffs are moving to 12 though.

When we’ll get 10-15 new incomers via the portal, the raw HS recruiting rankings are less important in the grand scheme vs overall talent infusion.

Denver Harris, if he’s committed is plug and play game 1 starter and won’t count in the tally but Ricks who will walk into a deep CB room at Bama and may play ST and 5-10 snaps per game on defense moves the needle as a 5 star.

I like our approach, Ricks accepted our NIL Tuesday (and it was significant) only to come back on Wednesday and ask for more after Bama raised the ante. His focus is more matierial and he’ll be the highest paid DB at Bama next year. If he doesn’t start that’s how rooms break down like A&M this year.

Just because admission standards are lowered makes it ok to lower our standard? Same effect - I’m talking about being one of the elite teams. Getting into the playoff as a team That can’t get past the second round isn’t going to satisfy our fans.

We are actually 5th on On3 and 247.

You’re looking at composite rankings.

We have a good class addressing needs. Kelly has done a great job, we’ve just missed on a few to bring us to top 3.

Why do you guys ignore the portal? They just got 2 5* both starters and a DL who's VERY good.

That factors into these rankings too since they're 1 year rentals anyway and just up to go to portal when things don't go their way. In some ways, the portal is more important because you get instant impact players that are proven. Harris is a 2 year starter for LSU and was a freshman all-american talent. You don't know what you have from the HS ranks and if they'll even last past a year.

Portal definitely helps, but the portal applies for everyone. It’s not the way to build a team Kelly has stressed that fact.

I would say we missed on 2/4 highest need areas: WR, OL, DT and Corner.

We did not address needs at DT and Corner.

If by roster management you mean QB, then yes. The talent level of the top ten are negotiable, the QB is the difference maker, and as you stated, coaching

There's very little talent difference between LSU's 7th ranked class and the top 5. The top 2 is really the only ones who'd have an argument but then you have to wonder how many are underrated on LSU's side too.

Building team culture for the future is important for the HS ranks. Immediate impact you build through the portal to fill needs. LSU has a top 5 if not top 3 class with portal entries factored in right now. The portal is every bit as important as HS recruiting and you'll find that out by fall time when you see how many players LSU brought over. The only reason we succeeded this past season was the portal in what was suppose to be a rebuild year. You're not reading what BK was saying correctly. He understands the value has to be spread to both.

Somewhere around 6th or 7th is probably where lsu's average class has been since 2000, some years better some years lower, and we won 3 natties so

The difference just needs to be high quality OL/DL to put LSU in the playoff hunt every year.

That is the thing that has separated Bama all these years. LSU will always have enough skill guys and athletes. I’m convinced QB talent is in good hands with Kelly and LSU is on the verge of having a dominant Oline.

The one chink in the armor so far has been Dline recruiting…specifically DT.

Your point about rankings being at the margins is well taken, and I agree. It is also my point. The difference is getting an extra Toviano, or getting a Will Campbell or Perkins. Over the course of 3-4 recruiting cycles, that is important.

My overall point is that the difference between 10-2 and 11-1/12-0 is at the margins. These are those margins.

One thing to consider is the amount of oline and TE’s we bring in affect the overall score. We were desperately low on quality oline and loaded at WR.

Once we are more consistent with depth the number should rise a little, based on the skill players we have to recruit.

Roster management is more important than the class ranking. This class was clearly about building up the trenches and the secondary. Not getting Ricks stung a little, but a back fill with Denver Harris is equal, if not better, for the program.

Point is, don’t get too caught up in the class ranking this cycle, or maybe even next. There’s a roster that still has to be built over time. The roster desperately needs big guys, so that’s what you got for most of this class.
