I agree. You would think a couple five stars would have committed to us already after the season we had. It doesn't make sense that Ohio State and Bama are getting them already but we aren't

I'll tell you something else. If Orgeron gets no five stars, but he gets a complete class, I'd bet it's a better class than Bama's higher rated one. I would not have said that two years ago, but I see it now.

People are really going off the deep end with this kind of stuff now. We have literally one year of everything coming together and now it's like Bama hasn't been consistently great for the last 7 years and Orgeron doesn't even need 5 stars. Ok.

It's not the one special year that makes me say this. It's that Orgeron is absolutely killing it on talent evaluation. He is signing three stars, and low four stars, who are panning out at a remarkable level. Guys like Jay Ward, Joe Evans, Cordale Flott, Damone Clark and Dare Rosenthal. All of these guys will play in the NFL, and I think two #1 draft choices from this group are likely.

Dare is going to make a huge step. I'd venture a guess Flott's steadily gotten better with experience and will shine too; I'd put Clark in same category.

And I mean in the here and now... not some fuzzy point in the distant future.

It sounds 'mean' to some peoples sensitive ears, but Orgeron's view of, to quote Frank Costello in the Departed, "what can I use you fur" is working very well. He sees what they can be with the right amount of effort and instruction. Almost all try to see around that corner; Orgeron seems to be better than most about it. Don't discount the position coaches role in that.

Why exactly does it matter when they commit? So you can brag on the SECR about it?

It helps the recruiters to identify what needs are left and focus their resources accordingly.

Having top players committed helps with other recruits. Top players usually want to be part of a top class, and getting them early helps get the snowball effect going.

For the love of God, it’s “a part” not “apart”. You want 5 stars to be “a part” of this class.

Player do different things and commit at different times.

Some also may want to see what our offense looks like this year.

They are certainly hearing the “LSU was the flash in the pan” or “one hit wonder” last year with Burrow and Brady that are now gone.

MB English nazi. I’ll be sure to comb over my post multiple times as well as have my co workers proofread it. That I way I won’t have keyboard warrior Ragin Tiger1 come deduct points.
