What parts would you dispute?

The "too many specialists" is absolutely correct. Three kickers + two punters + two snappers = 7 scholarships out of 85. Plus all the scholarships wasted on WR's (who have either transferred or who simply don't get used), and you really do have a limited number of scholarships available for more important, core positions.

Actually he recruited the position quite well. Perriloux was top recruit, and Harris was highly sought after. He just didn't put them in a place where they could succeed on the field, and it was his down fall. I'll stick by my assertion that he may be the best recruiter in the country. Case in point, how the heck did he recruit 4 and 5 star WR and receiving TE year in and out? Still boggles my mind.
I really wish we could get past the Les bashing. He is a great coach, and just like our fan base he had the wind taken from him in the NCG. He was never the same, the swag was gone. He will succeed if given another opportunity. Sometimes, you just need a fresh start.

This article is a damn joke! There are plenty of issues and things that should change with the firing of Miles, criticizing the recruiting, y'all are reaching.

The whole thing is kind of dumb, except he makes a good point about excessive scholarships to specialists/fullbacks.
I mean we had 5 scholarship fullbacks on the team last year. Let that sink in for a minute...
I wonder if they decide to scrap the position all together...guess it depends on the new coach coming in.

quote:Why does everyone always have to say this dumb shite? One reason, is obviously that he/LSU developed players and put them in the NFL, at numerous positions. Another reason, he ran a pro style offense that would develop these WR's better for the next level (especially with blocking) than a spread type offense would. There's plenty of other reasons too, but I just wanted to point out quickly how stupid this statement is.
I have no idea why a WR prospect would come to LSU.
ETA - Most players live in the real world and understand there will be losses and tough times, unlike most of our fans.

Yep.
Could he have done better in some ways? Maybe. but Les was one of the great CFB recruiters. Talent's not been a problem since he took over.

Jimmy came on T-Bob's show tonight to talk about this article. LINK

RP and Harris are the only ones to start for LSU under him.

Did not look at any links, but what I would just hope for better OL recruit evaluations and signing fewer tight end and fullback type of playess. Also signing more linebacker types.

I don't mind giving scholarships to specialists, but they better be good. I guess no one remembers saban had an open tryout for kicker because we were so bad.

Or keep the Pro-style QB we already have committed to us...

Can't disagree- but is it just bad choice of prospects or that the Les/Cam offense killed anyone from being successful?
