I don’t think people get mad if the staff obviously thinks one guy is better than the other and he happens to be the lower ranked one. The thing people get mad at is the “bird in the hand” strategy in June. This same thing led to one of the lowest ranked classes in decades here and we were turning down too 100 guys at the end because the class filled up during the camp season. The JUCO TE and CB probably could’ve been slow played, I have no idea about how good the other 2 guys we landed are, but if they liked them enough then taking them this weekend was when they needed to do it. The LB in this thread looks good, but you have an ILB committed, starks is committing soon and then you still have Dean on the board. Taking him now would be kind of senseless.

He’s got instincts, perfect size for a 3-4 inside backer, will knock the snot outta you, and most importantly, DAVE ARANDA WANTS THIS CAT

I’m sold

Clemson has a heck of a lot more 3* in their classes since Dabo's been in charge than we have.

Thought I'd add something.

Plesse name that top 100 talent that we turned down last year because I'm sure not aware of it. We had spots at the end if they wanted to commit?

We have plenty of spots left if Dean wants to go ahead and come join. Also not everyone is going to sign in December and you know how this goes, we have guys who don't make it for one reason or another. I think we're fine.

I'm hoping Edwards flips to the Moo Moo's or we "cool" on him and he takes the hint so we can make room for this kid.

What? Why the frick would we cool on a 4 star linebacker commit? Or give him a hint we don’t want him here?

exactly what I was going to say.

Also noted that he takes great angles and engages blocks (the two go hand in hand).

He's fun to watch on video in high school games but he doesn't translate to SEC speed of the game in my opinion. Hope I'm wrong.

He is referring to Justin Watkins and the running back from Alabama that was 6'3.

We took chase at the end over Watkins and Joiner had months to make up his mind if he wanted in that class. Auburn didn’t even sign him as a RB.

Justin Watkins, Harold Joiner and Mario Goodrich were all turned down. All were top 100 guys

Turning down Goodrich is probably the most baffling and dumbest recruiting move I've ever seen.

So baffling that I have to believe it was a case where Surtain made it known that he didn't want the competition with Goodrich.

But even so, we NEEDED multiple corners really really badly.

Spot on! He's not as athletic as White but he has those instincts and reads the play very well

Reminds me of Kevin Minter..After viewing the tape more and more..watch the ball carriers 'body language'..they seem to have felt his wrath..on more than one occasion ..They have that "awww shiit" moment..his play "gets in their heads"

I'd rather have a player that's in the right position to bust up a play..than some of these 4.5 guys..just sayin' that's my opinion..

White is probably not that "instinctive" (remember, he's still developing as a LB), but he can overcome it with speed and sheer desire. I don't know if there is a guy on LSU team that plays harder...all game long. And goes sideline to sideline with ease.

This guy certainly is a big hitter and clearly not afraid to be physical. But I suspect he is a 3* because of the lack of speed and pure athleticism (things you just can't coach). While a lack of speed doesn't in and of itself mean you can'g be a good LB, it just means you might be kind of limited in what you can do. In a game that is become more and more "spread out", I think a lack of speed can be a bit of a concern.

Let Coach Moffitt work on him and he'll be alright. Plus I'm sure the modern day Einstein of Defensive Coordinators will be able to utilize him to his strengths. He's shown he can do that

He's like a missile to the ball carrier like he's shot out of a gun. Looks to be just a really good football player with great instincts. Thumbs up!

Yes. Very very sharp instincts. What I liked was his closing speed. He may not be a rocket out of a cannon but he'll lay the wood with any LB in the country. Again, he just needs to be in the right S&C program and he'll be fine
