SO MANY players on those teams and in recent years who were greats players were 3's and 4's.

No doubt.

There are great 3 and 4 star players all around and many will start in the NFL. Bottom line is every top 100 or even 250 player far more likely play in the league (talent) than a 3 or 2 star.

There are currently ~4000 3 star and ~120 5 star college football players. There are ~1700 active NFL roster spots.
Of course there will be more non 5 star or top 100 players. But there will also be a lot more more non 5 star/top 100 guys that were not good enough to play in the league.

The more top 1-200 players you sign the more talented players you will likely have. And vice versa

That he could be a Jacob Hester and win us an NC, he could be an AA like Mo Claiborne, or he could be one of our best playmakers like DJ Chark.

Bolden is less likely to make an impact as a Terrance Marshall is though. He easily could, but when you do this 25x per year all these likelyhoods have a huge impact on the overall talent level of your 85 man roster

3 first round draft picks this past draft.
LF
JA
TW

All top 100 players, and ranked in that exact order

next guy taken? Ethan pocic 58th overall. He happened to be the 57th ranked player in the 247composite btw.

2 first round projections next draft:
Arden Key
Derrius Guice

Top 100 players

You want as many of these guys as possible

Bolden is 100% still in play!! Watch Canada's offense along with T-rob and mickeys coaching style! Every player will be used and utilized to their best and own ability! It'll be like Arandas defense but on offense, dif look every week that dominates opponents. Brings out the best ability in every player! They're building a strong powerful team that in 19' will be flooded with 5 stars. This year we're building the solid lining of every player will be able to contribute. Zero floaters and that's what killed miles and his last set of teams. This is what makes bama classes so strong. Zero floaters

It's funny how Bama is usually the measuring stick, but yet no one has brought up the fact that they only have FIVE COMMITS right now. But yeah let's continue to push this narrative that we're struggling on the recruiting trail.

Whatever bama teams the country has been playing did not have 5 commits. They were stocked full of top 100 players.

If this bama class ends up around 7-10th, let me know if they are as dominant in 3 years.

Where have I said we are struggling? We've convinced a bunch of kids to commit to us, it's what the staff wants.
We haven't not signed any highly ranked guys yet either, just accepted commitments at this time from a decent amount of lower ranked guys.

I mean do you really think urban, jimbo, or Saban couldn't all have 25 3 stars locked up by march every year if they wanted to?

We may do a great job evaluating to our needs, we might have an incredible staff in place X and O wise, we may have a lot of success as a program with this strategy.
But when you look at the draft, and are talking strictly talent, the better classes you sign the better overall talent level you'll have on your roster. Those programs sustain success more often than not.

So quite a few of our 3 stars have offers from some of the top programs across the country and your concerned about a star rating from kids behind a computer? Cool story bro.

That's only generally true with respect to final rankings. Those stars rankings always change based on the number and quality of offers, camp evaluations, etc. That's the whole point of these camps. Identify talent early and get commitments based on your coaches' assessments. The rankings usually play catch up to the coaches assessments.

i dont care what star you put next to this guy.
if you watch that film and dont think this guy is a player than you dont know football.

LSU, Auburn, USC, and Tennessee offered this guy a full scholoarship. You think that these people are all wrong?

COME ON MAN!

Jacob Hester was a 3 star recruit.

Let's hope he's as good as Jacob, and I don't put a lot of stock in the so called genius star designation granters. Can the dude play ball? He looks pretty convincing on film to me, but I'm not a coach!

The real question is how a kid with this much talent has just 3 stars?

Is he that talented?

Small frame, 4.7 40, and offer list is meh. I'd say the services have him ranked properly.

When it's all said and done, bama will have a #1 class and LSU's will be around 15 unless there's some major adjustments in the rankings. The highest rated commit isn't going to sign here. The 2018 class is a head scratcher for me. 2019 is more what I expected from this group.

Arky...I have a hard time seeing both Provens and Bolden in this class. Only so many spots left and sooo many stud WR's left on the board...not to mention RB's.

I'd love to add Marshall, Chase or Jason, and Keys to give us 5 true WR's.

If Provens is being recruited as a true RB then only 1 spot left imo for either Joiner or Carter. This doesn't even include Valentine or possibly Franklin.

Can't get em all. Can we?

I'm sure the coaches see something I'm not, but his 40 and shuttle are not of the caliber we are used to seeing.

That said, his film looks good.

Guess LSU saw Bolden up close at camp and just preferred Provens.

Except the fact Provens committed before Slade stepped on campus.

As far as the impact on Slade, yet to be determined. You would think it has an impact of some sort since they're pretty much identical. Just have to let it all play out.

bottom line. imo, the recruiting services lack accuracy a lot and have "popularity contest" tendencies. they are a valuable tool, however.
