Chestnut would have made a great slot corner at LSU or safety, but we used undersized Sage Ryan there.
the guy that graded out as one of the top CBs in the SEC at the end of the season on the outside? That undersized Sage Ryan??

Fire house immediately after A&M game, gives program and fans and recruits hope. 2 days later higher an elite DC and media gushing over the hire we would have recruits banging on the door.

He also had a quite unfortunate baptism of fire by having to cover Keon Coleman in his first game

Many of you have a comic belief that position coaches are the ones that recruit their players. Short on defensive linemen? The DL coach must be a poor recruiter. That’s just not the case.
Who is Underwood's primary recruiter? Sloan.
Whether you like him or not, Corey recruited DBs.
Ondre Evans said he was switching to UGA because he would be "developed" there. Clearly position coaches affected his recruiting.
Who did Cain recruit when he was here? Why do you think there's a shortage of DL in our class?
Yes coaches recruit regions, but position coaches are vital in closing on recruits in their position group. To say otherwise is being willfully ignorant. Relationships, development, performance aspects of the position coach weigh on a recruit's decision to choose a school.

At LSU it is that opposite. They bring in man corners to try and run a zone scheme
Every team in college football runs man and zone so this is a dumb talking point. Dave Aranda had Stingley and Fulton and we still ran a ton of zone. Hell Nick Saban has NFL corners every year and he is know for the Cover 4 match zone. Good corners can play both techniques and generally speaking a good man corner can play zone way easier than a good zone corner can play man.

Could Insert Duece Chestnut name anywhere in here and it be identical to last year. I
Delane is a legit 6 foot plus corner with 4.4 or 4.45 speed.
JK Johnson was going to be a big time contributor prior to injury.

This is the answer, there are often 2 or 3 coaches recruiting a kid and the position coach may be the most instrumental because that's who is going go be working with them on a daily basis.

How does this pertain to LSU, you might ask?
We have a lot of DB talent coming back but you never turn down a player with his abilities.
