There is no reason we cant beat Napier and Tennessee in recruiting. Should be recruiting better than us. Throw some money around

We are trying to become the PORTAL KINGS! lol

It is fair to say that Kelly is a great coach. What he was able to do at Notre Dame without Top 10 classes and what he was able to do with a depleted roster last year at LSU is pretty remarkable. It’s also fair to say that recruiting thus far has been extremely lackluster. If the recruiting strategy doesn’t change, then the gap between LSU and other teams will be so big that his coaching will no longer be able to compensate for it. There should be no reason we lose so many battles to teams like Texas and A&M, especially for any in-state talent.

Notre Dame fans warned us that Kelly would recruit “good, not great”.
I’m a huge Kelly guy but his recruiting is extreme concerning.
We need to hire an actual DLine coach that can do the job.

The question is how much money do we have to throw around? Extending Orgeron contract was the biggest mistake they could have ever made. He cost millions of dollars and fwiw these recruits don’t care about anything but the most $$$ money being offered to them and their families.

Exactly- name a battle where it’s LSU and another team and they pick LSU. Obviously not doing something right.

I would agree with you on this cycle, in certain position groups, but overall, he had #5 class last year and #7 in his first year. I wouldn't say that's lackluster compared to where lsu typically ends up.
My fear has nothing to do with Kelly or the coaches he hires being able to sell kids on the recruiting trail. My fear is that NIL has changed the game and Kelly can only work with what he is given. We don't have texas or atm money. That's just the truth. NIL is why we lose recruits to schools like atm that have done nothing of note recently yet still end up with top 5 classes every year.
No amount of recruiting ability a coach has is going to overcome these NIL battles, and with the transfer portal the wild west as well there's effectively no penalty to a player for taking the money, going to a school for a year or so, and then transferring. We've done very well in the portal overall, but it's just not a sustainable way to build a team. Gotta get more funds to get these guys to lsu, is the long and short of it imo.

If we didn’t have money we wouldn’t have gotten the #5 class last year or #7 the year before.
And if you look at this class there’s a lot to like though there are a few holes which we don’t need to go over yet again. Louisiana is down which plays a factor as does the DL coach situation.
I also think they were a little late on a few offers which put us behind the 8 ball. Guys like Bussey and Simmons are going to be a miss more often than not.
Lastly I do think it’s clear some of the coaches on staff were brought in more for their ability to coach than recruit. We’ll see if changes are made, though there are very few assistant out there who can do both at a high level.
One off cycle that will still be top 10 does not make or break the program. I understand the agnst and feel it too but if you step back we’ve made a lot of progress in less than 24 months.

I honestly don't understand the point of Kerry Cooks if he doesn't make a bigger impact with his Texas connections. Pretty sure he was fired at Oklahoma and Notre Dame
and our secondary looks lost af

There really isn’t a lot to like about this class. It’s not exciting at all

You mean the fanbase that’s had a 2 year temper tantrum since he left doesn’t have nice things to say about him?
SHOCKING

Pick a top recruit in a much needed position and go get him. Sounds like you spending someone else's money!

We did beat them both last year by the end of the year. You people are so darn reactionary. It’s crazy. The year isn’t over, Louisiana is down, we won’t beat every team every year, we don’t have a darn DL coach and NIL is affecting it a little. It’s all of it combined and until we lose on a consistent basis, the kids sign, and we get a DL coach, im not done judging this class. It’s a decent class people. We have a good start to next year as well. I agree that we definitely need to get our donors involved and spend some darn money on at least 4-5 players a year, especially when the state is down but it’s not all lost.
