2022 LB & DB haul could be EPIC

While we are going to need a few more defensive lineman before all is said and done, it seems that unit is currently the deepest and most talented on that side of the ball. And so, I would like to see us beef up the LB & DB units via the 2022 class.
That said, I’m liking the way things appear to be trending for us lately at these positions. Perhaps I’m overly optimistic, but starting to believe an epic LB/DB haul is not only possible, but probable -
1. DeMario Tolan (LB)
2. Harold Perkins OR Shawn Murphy (LB)
3. Jacoby Mathews (S/LB)
4. Laterrance Welch (CB)
5. JaDarian Rhym (CB)
6. Azareyeh Thomas (CB)
7. Kamari Wilson (S)
8. Austin Ausberry (S/Nickel)
Again, I may be a little deep into the purple & gold kool-aid with this list but I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibilities.

Really excited to get Jacoby on campus. I think he could be a day 1 starter whichever position they decide to put him at

That’s a sick trio of outside corners. Thomas would be a huge pull.

I truly believe they can get Perkins and Murphy

This will be the best cornerback haul in years.
All 3 guys have a legit shot at being top of the draft guys.
I absolutely love all 3.

Does seem like Jacoby is heading toward some sort of a safety linebacker hybrid playing all over the field. He's already 200lbs and he still has his senior year to play. He will be a weapon wherever he lines up.

Yeah, probably my favorite thing about that group of recruits would be how much versatility they would allow for.
Jacoby can damn near play anywhere on the defensive side of the football, Ausberry can play safety and nickel, and I think Thomas could play safety or corner (he’s a big kid with good coverage skills).
That group of kids would provide a defensive coordinator an unlimited number of options

Outside of maybe Kamari Wilson, everything else looks legit and realistic. (Not saying we don't get Kamari, but it will still be hard)
I am not sure what position Kendrick Law will ultimately play (maybe yall know more than me), but he can play in the secondary too.

This plays right into what Daronte Jones wants to do and I love it.

I hear ya, Menace, and agree that Kamari is not going to be an easy pull.
My thought behind Kamari Wilson is this - I believe Daronte Jones is going to get a big recruiting win in this first season. And while I'm sure he assisted with Jacoby Mathews, I don't know how big of a factor he played in that one (don't feel like it was significant as the ground work had already been laid there). Daronte just seems really personable and oversees the safety position himself. Couple that with his NFL background and his intent to make the safety position a focal point of our defense, and I believe he can/will reel in a big fish at that position. He's done a good job making up considerable ground on UGA thus far, & I'm hoping he closes w/ Kamari Wilson.
Regarding Kendrick Law - he could/would make a fine DB, but it's been trending in the direction of him playing offense at LSU (primarily RB and probably some WR, also). Believe he will be used on special teams a good bit as well. The word has been that K. Law is Peetz favorite prospect, so he'll almost assuredly be an offensive weapon for LSU if/when we get him in the boat.

I hope so too. You make a compelling argument.

about time for DBU.

We have had the best freshman corner in back to back years. We now have undoubtedly the best corner combo in the country this year. Hell, one could argue this could be the best corner combo LSU has had in years, if not ever, if they live up to their hype. I would hardly consider that weak.

I think Kamari Wilson is just playing games right now. There’s no telling where he will end up as he’s not looking to choose a school anytime soon. As for Kendrick Law, I’m hearing he wants to see what the offense looks like under Peetz but is almost a lock. He likes the idea of being used as a joker on offense and ST as opposed to DB.

And don’t forget McGlothern. That guy looks like a beast.

The weakness has been at safety, not corner. We have the #1 & #2 corner in the nation at both ends.

Luckily we have the best safety class in the country coming in this season
