re: 2021 Quarterback - New Crystal Ball Predictions
quote:

He has brought in three proven quarterbacks

This has gotta be the dumbest take that i see frequently repeated on this website. None of those guys were anywhere even close to that stratosphere before they got to oklahoma.

Baker went from 2315yds/12TD/9INT/6.8yds per att to 4627yds/43TD/6INT/11.5yds per att

Kyler went from 686yds/5TD/7INT/5.7yds per att to 4361yds/42TD/7INT/11.6yds per att

You really think those guys were already proven before Riley got his hands on them? Even Hurts had an absolutely massive improvement. None of those guys were "proven" at anywhere even REMOTELY resembling the level of play Riley got them to. To suggest that he didn't play a massive role in their development is absolutely idiotic.

THIS! You could argue over the last 15-20 years there has not been a bigger moment where LSU NEEDS Brennan to do well (and I'm NOT talking Burrows well) this season IOT capitalize on our 2019 success and reinforce what QBs can accomplish in our system. Don't give the talk-heads (opposition) any talking-points. Seize the day MB; you got this!

“We also need Brennan to learn, grow and do well in order for other QB recruits to continue to look at Lsu on a yearly basis”

This is exactly correct. The LSU coaching staff wants to be able to hold Myles Brennan up as the poster child for recruiting QBs in the future. They want to be able to say, look at Brennan, we recruited him, he developed and waited his turn, he believed in our process and now look where he is. He’s the second Heisman trophy winner is as many years, he’s brought us back to the NC and now he’s a first round draft pick. They’ll say that’s what you can do as the next LSU quarterback if you commit to our program, work hard and believe.

No, what’s idiotic is someone thinking 3 QBs that several schools wanted, were DEVELOPED under Riley. When you go from schools like Tech and aTm to a school that has talent all over the field and a weak schedule, you better improve. And LSU AND Baylor both proved Hurts was no better than he was at bamer. I am not saying Riley isn’t a fine young coach, but he how many games has he won when he goes against real competition?

I am puzzled as to why Nussmeier is not ranked higher after looking at his offer sheet and highlight tape.

Yeah just like that 5 Star WR wasn’t going to Maryland.

Apparently they see something different than the fans do. Too early to go with offer lists and especially with qbs. Guaranteed the major offers he has on the table couldnt be accepted right now. Some have their qb for the class and some are chasing better prospects like we are.

Same here. I’m guessing it’s because he’s 6’2 185 as opposed to 6’4 210. His tape is awfully impressive though.

Ensminger doesn’t either.

You ever heard of Eric Zeier? Guess who developed that guy? That's right Ensminger who is not only a former QB himself, but who is a very excellent QB coach.

Meanwhile, Linehan was hired as the passing game coordinator and not the QB coach since LSU already has a QB coach and his name is Steve Ensminger. In fact, it's part of his job title and job description.

Steve Ensminger, a starting quarterback for LSU under legendary coach Charles McClendon in the late 1970s, enters his second full season as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Tigers in 2019.

Dumb?
What was their record at Oklahoma vs SEC competition?
What was Burrow's record vs SEC, ACC and Big 12 competition?
What was Hurts record vs SEC competition?
That's what I thought, Dummy.

re: 2021 Quarterback - New Crystal Ball Predictions

I've been adamant in my belief that we will get Williams. Nothing that's happened has changed that. UGA was a factor but they're out. Oregon was never gonna get him. Clemson is always a threat and impressed him but Caleb and his dad are smart, DJU just came in. PSU is a threat because they've been on him the longest and it's close. Wouldn't sleep on them but think they are very beatable. Maryland is a joke. Jarrett actually asked him a week before ESD if he was gonna go to Maryland. Simple response, he wants to win. Oklahoma is always a threat because of Riley and his success with QB production and drafting. However nothing since Vandagriff decommitted has happened that makes me think Oklahoma is anywhere near the threat the media is making them to be. Not currently. Think that's just perception and forecasting and not really based on anything substantial.
LSU on the other had extremely glowing reviews from Caleb and in particular his dad. His dad loves LSU. That has to count for something considering the closeness he has to the recruitment. I've seen nothing aside from fan panic and media blowharding with Oklahoma that suggests we've fallen out of favor. We've got the hire now and just need to get them back on campus and close the deal.

Linehans ties to Nuss is favorable but just coincidental. E is choosing the QB in this class with input from the analysts and Linehan. Make no mistake though, Linehan nor the analysts are here to pick the qb. They're here to sell the qb on concepts and the plan. If we wanted Nuss we could have him already. Apparently someone isn't sold on him as the best choice currently. Only constant is E.

To add to your post, Caleb also says he is still talking to Joe Burrow.

I saw your post before you edited and I agree that these mean very little right now. Just thought they were interesting since there has been a lot of talk about 2021 QBs lately.

The MD Staff Writer has some wishful thinking... Caleb was never very interested in Maryland

You don't put any stock in the Under Armour money theory? Between that and Locksley being an excellent recruiter, I wouldn't rule Maryland out. This could very easily be a case where the kid's enjoying the process and soaking up the national attention early in the process, but the hometown team ends up in the mix later on.
