Hopefully hess can make it. He could be a guy that immediately replaced Poche in the rotation

Keep sliding Hess and Peterson McKay was a top 40 prospect at one point last year and made it to campus.

I hear tell that he has flipped his commitment. Getting an actual scholly, not just a preferred walk-on. Heading up to North Louisiana...

Has scholly offers at UL-L and NSU from what I've been told. This one will depend on how bad he wants to go to LSU or how bad he wants to play baseball.

Do you have anything more concrete? Both players are reported to have signed LOIs with LSU, so it's not just as simple as switching a commitment.

Unfortunately no I do not. I haven't seen anything that shows they were offered a scholarship, therefore the provisions to validate an LOI are not being met. Do you have info showing a scholarship offer?

I hope that what I have heard is wrong, and both make it to LSU.

What is his status? I thought that he would have pitched this season.

Hypothetically speaking, if we only lose 3 recruits to the draft (pint, Williams, Peterson/Hess) will we have any room on the roster without having anyone transfer? Assuming atleast Poche, fraley, and Newman are drafted.

We would need some transfers to fit everyone.

Final stat update on Nick Coomes:

.360/.455/.682 for the season
26 2b, 2 3b, 13 HR, 16 SB

11% BB rate, 19% K rate, .322 ISO Power

He had a .398 BABIP, which could lead some to believe he was lucky on balls in play. There has been some research though at the lower level minor leagues (because of the talent disparity among players) that suggest BABIP can also be an indicator of quality of contact. I feel like that is a more logical explanation in this case.

He had a .511 wOBA, which may not tell the whole story of his offensive production because the weightings aren't for JUCO peers but for MLB players from around 2010. Same with the 75 Runs Created in 58 games.

Depending on how hard the draft hits us for pitchers (which could be pretty hard) we may be able to snag another free agent like Valek.

North Dakota is dropping their baseball program. Lefty Zach Muckenhirn is the #145 draft prospect according to Baseball America but is looking to land in the SEC for a year before going pro. He's a lefty that beat USC earlier this year. Stuff-wise he's more like Poche than Valek.

I've not seen anything to link him to LSU at all, so this is all speculative. But it's a name to keep an eye on.

Yep, we will have your typical guys who probably didn't play much if really at all this year looking to head elsewhere. For instance Adams and Ducote going into their senior seasons with really no role this year. Adams will compete for 1B job (if Deichmann leaves) but can he win it? Ducote I really like but there is only 1 outfield spot opening up and we have a handful of guys that could fill it (Breaux, for instance).

You have Strall at pitcher who just basically didn't throw this season, going into his last year.

Then you have the freshman who could head elsewhere (probably JUCO), in that group: Lochridge, Dawson, Wofford, Forshag & Bush. Certainly wont lose near all of them, but I'm sure some will think about it, while others might be asked to look elsewhere. I'll throw McKay in the Godfrey grouping as a high talent who just couldnt put it together as a freshman. I hope he stays, but who knows.

Riley Smith is a bit of an enigma, had that injury plague him most of season but is a draft risk for sure if he wants to keep leverage.

Middle infielder Josh Smith will be playing in the Prospect League, a college wooden bat league, this summer before coming to campus. The season for that league starts tomorrow night, so once I get back from vacation on Tuesday I will attempt to track his stats like I did for Nick Coomes this past season.

I will also be tracking the other LSU hitters in summer ball whenever possible.

Lochridge was the starter before he got hurt so I can't imagine him leaving after 1 year. Bush had Tommy John witch is why he doesn't play, I'm pretty sure forshag was going to LSU just to be a normal student and they asked him to play so I don't see him transferring. Everyone else you can make a case for them to stay or go but the 2 Delgado guys are probably the most likely to leave. Has Adams even hit since sec play started?

Certainly not saying they are all gone, just listing possibilities.

Reid has filled in 3B nicely, so that's going to be hard for him to give that up to Lochridge IMO. Reid's defense leaves a lot to be desired, but his bat was just plain good as a freshman. Forshag was just a late roster add, typically guys like that only stay on for a year.

MLB.com comes out with their new list of 200 prospects next week. It will be interesting to see where some of the previously unranked recruits rank on the list.

Here is a good article on Josh Smith from Catholic:
LINK

Looks like he's not much of a draft risk, really wants to be at LSU.

quote:

Smith leads the team with 48 RBIs on a .379 batting average. He’s recorded three triples and five doubles and is 32-for-33 on stolen base attempts.

Both his slugging and on base percentages dropped from last season, but not by much, sitting at a .690 slugging and .594 on base clips, down from .708 and .633 last year.

ETA: He hasn't started playing with the college summer league team yet. Their games have started, but he hasn't been in any box scores.
