Why doesn't Baton Rouge retrofit as they are widening these roads throughout the city?

Why are we even concerned with the wind? Obviously it won't be as strong, but what wind and rain is hear will be here for a much longer period of time than Gustav.

That is a great question. In Denham Springs I asked the same thing. Supposedly the cost is too great? Seems like replacing poles and wire every couple of years would cost more.

Meteorologist

I would love to give some weather predictions, but it takes years of training and certifications to screw up as bad as a professional.

75 mph winds in an urban area for several hours is a very big deal.....especially a city with a vast tree canopy like Baton Rouge.

Ya I guess so. When I was a kid living in Scottsdale we had winds like that at least once every single August during Monsoon season but it only lasted for 30-60 minutes and did decent damage but not that much because we dont really have trees like BR. Because of urban sprawl we don't get storms like that anymore which sucks because they were awesome!

also gustav was a strong cat 2 to weak cat 3 at landfall with winds sustained about 110mph by the time it was closet to BR it had dropped to 80 mph. So do the math Gustav fater moving storm comes in about 110mph, isaac comes in at best around 85mph slower moving storm. Both storms will have its center within 80mph of BR. which storm do you think will be more intense even if the storm goes directly over BR I mean the center of circulation.

I'm with you on this....but CatholicTiger keeps predicting about 50mph in BR sustainged and this 2008 dude keeps laughing. I want him to support his point. I want him to tell me why he thinks a storm that will be on land for 10+ hours before it hits BR will still have the same wind speed it came on shore with in BR.

At this point I'm just going with the answer that his dumbassery is clouding his oppinions.
