You getting power depends on damage from you to the substation past that date.

What logistical headaches? And how about the benefit to the consumers in planning their actions over the next few days? If I know, for example, that it is unlikely to have power in my neighborhood for the next three or four days, then I can plan accordingly. Take a short trip, etc.

So no, you haven't.
Giving the amount and degree of information you called for is the product of a frickton of data and analysis. One that is extremely fluid and continually revised.
Processing and publishing that data into a format for public consumption is no mean feat.
The more manhours they need to purchase for PR is directly associated with fewer manhours they can spend on field crews.
And you talk as if they don't give general statements on a region by region basis so evacuees can "plan". 90% of New Orleans residents should have power by Wenesday, 70% by end of today.
Data breakdown street by street is absurd and unreasonable.

Which has nothing to do with customers getting the kind of detailed information you proposed.
I've NEVER gotten that kind of response and have gone with several good storms.
I grew up in South Lafourche as well though.
I maintain my assessment that New Orleans residents just aren't experienced in what "riding out a storm" entails.

Perhaps I should re-re-evaluate. Entergy is the greatest company in the world, and its customers in Jefferson and Orleans are spoiled, ignorant, ungrateful louts who should be ashamed of themselves.

Seriously though....all I am saying is that level of feedback is unreasonable to expect without it also impeding restoration efforts.
I want them focused 100% on restoring power as fast as possible.
It's silly to devote a significant portion of attention and resources at just giving the public highly detailed reports.
They do give summaries and release them....that combined with the outage map is enough.
Expecting street by street reports on assessment, repairs, and estimated time for outage is just unreasonable. Especially as in storms like this, the inital assessment is never complete. Problems emerge as they power the grid up.

spoiled and ignorant, in general. I would agree.
I just don't remember this same backlash during Katrina. When in reality Isaac may have been worse for Entergy, simply because of how long it stayed over our region. Something like 2x's as long as Katrina did. It ended up being the 3rd or 4th largest outage in Entergy's history.
Now did they expect some damage? Sure.
did they expect the damage that ended up happening? maybe not, but i dont think most did. It's hard to blame them.
I still think they are doing a good job. I would have killed to have my power on 3 or 4 days after Katrina. shite, my mother got her power back in 8 hours...in the same house we lost power for 2.5 weeks for Katrina.

sure some people still don't have power. I wouldnt expect everyone to have power yet. But say that you had power(and i know you do now), then someone else is still with out it, and they are still bitching about it.
They can't snap their finger and restore to everyone at the same time. Someone will always be unhappy. Someone will always say they aren't doing their job. WHen in reality, they are working hard around the clock.

Garland asked them the exact question I wanted to ask...they have the information, they feel that they can't put it out in a form that the public can understand (editorial comment....bullshite!!!)
they may not be able to tell you exactly by the block, but they have enough information to tell you how many people and bucket trucks are working among other things....
Entergy is still listening with a tin ear....they are slowly realizing that their mantra isn't working and people are getting really pissed off with lack of information....

Entergy has been calling people with land lines telling them when their power is coming back one, once they get a feel for it. Within 24 hours usually.

You know whats funny? The internet has made us soooo lazy.
Entergy has a website with outage info. I get text messages telling me my power is out and with updates at least once a day. Their facebook page gave hourly updates.
For Katrina, none of these services existed. I think the outage map did during Gustav.
Customers are now more informed than they have ever been in history, yet complain because they can't be told exactly to the minute what is wrong and when it will be fixed. Judging by the response to the increased access already given, do you think providing this service will make it any better?
