You guys have any grout cleaning tips?

I have Zep for grout and scrubbed it and have a handheld steamer (Bissell steam shot), but it still isn't great looking. Do I need to hire someone with industrial strength machines?
FTR, this tile is 30 years old in our guest room and we have just neglected the grout for years other then the maids mopping the bathroom once a week
Now my wife has decided this is a huge deal, despite having never mentioning it before. I might just do what I can to clean it then paint/seal over it.

I think at some point, the stains are just the stains. I've transformed my kitchen area using MAPEI Grout Refresh from Lowes. It's basically a paint that you brush on and wipe off the excess from the tile.
Big messy pain but man it looks so much better. I did it twice, it started to wear off after 2 years of use and abuse.

Thanks, and yeah I think that might be all I can do. I did buy this and tried it on a small stretch, but the grout is so dark gray it can be seen through and would take multiple coats. I think I'll just clean as best I can, try this one I have and if it still doesn't cover it enough go get your product.
I do need to figure out when to seal it after.

Our original grout color was some sort of a neutral beige, but it had gotten so dark and nasty looking. I scrubbed. I steamed. I bought special brushes. I bleached... nothing would change the look. I did have pretty good coverage though. It takes a whole of crawling around on your hands and knees. Squeeze some out and brush it in. Let it set up a little and wipe it off the tile.
It seems to peel up like acrylic or latex paint on the tile, and grip onto the grout very well. Stuff that set up a bit too much on the tile seems to soften with a little water and get wiped away. It made our kitchen look like a new room. Go darker than you think though. I tried a few shades thinking it was dark enough and they looked stark white when applied.

We have white tile floors so I'm trying to match it. Thanks for all the advice, I guess I just need to get on my hands and knees and do the work

My only advice is don’t overscrub and have to rip out half your bathroom because water makes it way into the wall. Ask me how I know.

Steamer is the only things I’ve ever had any luck with.

Throw momma's handheld in the garbage and go rent a real grout steam cleaner. Worth every penny. Your grout WILL be clean. $50 for 4 hours or $75 for a day. You'll find yourself cleaning everything in site.

Get yourself a pack of white terry towels that you can pitch after. Steam and wipe. Also if you’re cleaning floors that ever were moped with pinesol, fabaloso (my house keepers favorite) be prepared for how much that shite soaked in and you’re going to smell it.

This will sound simple but I spent so much time and many, many attempts to clean light tan/light gray grout between white kitchen tile. Finally……….
“30 second outdoor cleaner” from Home Depot just did a fantastic job. I used a scrubber disc pad on a cordless drill. Got the white ones on Amazon.
Process I used…
Spray about 3 foot square of the tile grout.
Let sit for about 5 mins
Use the drill scrubber on the grout lines
Wipe with sponge and rinse often with clean water
Repeat for other sections
Let dry and it will look awesome
