Or something else? Was thinking about replacing all of our blinds in the living rooms with roman shades instead of faux wooden blinds. what do you guys prefer for window treatment?

We went with the faux wood blinds, 3" slats. I wanted plantation shutters, but they are too expensive.

I just put in new faux wood 2.5" blinds, and dressed out the sides of each window with top to bottom drapery panels. Looks very nice.

We built a house last year and went with Roman Shades.

The blinds just seemed dated to us.

Blinds or shutters become a weekly cleaning item--they hold dust/pet hair like mad unless someone is carefully cleaning each slat.

Roman shades don't have all those nooks & crannies to catch dust & debris. Some shades are even washable/dry-cleanable.

I prefer a drapery hung from a rod that can be taken down and washed regularly, thus, I've got linen semi sheer panels.

Modern light filtering roller shades are another low-dust option.

If you can swing it, I highly suggest plantation shutters.

Mom just spent $4K on 8 windows with Hunter Douglas Silouette which are really a throwback. At 81 though she has seen them all and these are her preference. YMMV

I just priced out natural woven shades last week.

Blindster.com

They have occasional sales up to 50% off
I purchased and hung 6 windows with the cordless 2" wood blinds this summer. Great experience with them.

It’s a kick in the balls, but wooden plantation shutters are just timeless. We did 4” with no center rail and they look incredible, gives them a much more modern feel. All in a little over 8k.

Will have to look into this. Doubt we put that much money into since we might sell in a couple of year.

I do like the idea of cordless blinds. Plus blinds might block our more sun, where the evening sun shines on that side of the house. Looked at cordless shades and hot damn those are pricey. Was thinking about just doing the continuous loops cord for those, if we went that route.

I have both and prefer the plantation shutters. I just vacuum them with the brush attachment to get dust off.

We just ordered faux wood and Roman shades on blinds.com. Install is on the 16th. I’ll report back with how they look.
