What’s a better herbicide for Virginia buttonweed. MSM turf or Fertilome weed free zone?

Both are effective in my opinion. I've used both with good success. Just don't apply Weed Free Zone when temps are over 85F (or so). Sometimes mature VBW may need more than one application.

My Virginia buttonweed laughed at MSM. It took two applications of Celsius to get it done.

I prefer Celsius to both.

Ronk, would this also apply for spot treatment? I only have a few small area's. What is the shelf life after mixture. Also some of us tend to over saturate when spot treating. Any danger there? Thanks.

Yes, definitely spot treat. I try to only mix what you need. I've used it 3 months later and it still works fine but that is not going to be recommended. If stored in a cool dark area it will last longer.

Don't oversaturate. Get a nice walking speed around 3mph, hold the nozzle 18 inches off the ground. Start spraying just before the weed and stop just after.

Spot treating is by far the best way to eliminate buttonweed. I have had success with 2,4-D as well.

LSU says MSM is the best for it, but as others have stated, you have options when treating for VBW. Plan on having to spot treat twice per mature plant.

Yes, thanks for your input Ronk. We’ve all learned a lot from you.

For those having trouble with VBW, I’ve always had success with MSM turf in the past. Now, I just scour my yard for a few minutes before cutting and hand pull weeds. VBW is the most satisfying to pull for me and very easy. If you stay on top of it next year, you wont ever have to use herbicides on it again.

I decided to mix msm with celsius a couple weeks ago.

Will follow up in a couple weeks but liking the results so far.
I usually just use celsius.

For isolated patches of buttonweed I have been using this and it works great, but it kills the grass also.
