They are TPE rubber with a 35yr warranty and are UV resistant
Traditional rubber pipe jacks degrade like a mofo.. this roof is 11 years old... yes its 3tab and yes its shitty work (no sealant on the nails and a crappy cut around the boot)
But the rubber boot has been degraded from sun damage so badly that the decking is now exposed and has water damage
Also, people, don't paint your pipes... they look like shite in a year or two... especially any Type B vent that lets hot air escape... the paint will eventually flake off and look like crap

Are there any tile roofs in LA like here in Florida? We are closing on our new home soon and it will be our first tile roof. I have always had shingles.

Really? 20 years ago…things can change you know
They can obviously. If you want to spend alot of money for a roof in hopes they do/did, go ahead bro.
GAF had huge quality control issues with Timberline back in the 1980's they fixed it. I believe Atlas can. I just don't know if they have. Only time will tell.

I think we're going to go with Malarky. Seems to get really good reviews

Atlas is good but has a weak workmanship warranty on their best warranty. OC has a great warranty and product and is well represented here in South LA. GAF also has a great warranty and product but doesn’t seem to have alot of coverage here in South LA. Can’t speak on others. We used OC in Lafayette and so far have been very pleased. We replaced an Atlas roof at 25 yrs.

quote:I went with Malarkey after Ida. I researched entirely too much and they come out either the best or 2nd best in nearly every "category" of tests I've seen. They were even super helpful when I reached out to locate the nearest Emerald Pro contractor. There were none at the time, but their regional rep(s) stayed in constant communication while they were vetting and training contractors. Eventually hired Suburban Roofing out of Nola and went with the full system under Highlander shingles.

Additionally I think they look the the best. They shapes of the contrasting shingles come together nicely and look nicer and better quality. The GAF shingles are by far the ugliest with thier little squares.

Great choice. It's a great shingle.

Use a IR shingle for sure: Atlas, GAF, Owens Corning or centinteed are all good and about the same.
