What caulk to use for seams and small gaps in hardy plank

Title says it all. This is an existing house, not news planks being installed.
When I do an internet search is says to use a special caulking that can't be used for gaps. You need to use actual slices of plank for the gaps.
Any help on thsi would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the butt joints between two ends? These should never be large enough to put a sliver in. 1/8 - 3/16. Caulk those, with any exterior caulk that stays pliable
Never caulk the horizontal seams where two pieces lap.
Any gap 1/2” or larger I would put a slice of siding with caulk on both edges.

above is right on. Any caulk is fine for butt joints but there shouldn’t be a gap there in the first place. Any paintable will do

Yes, the white caulk is best for smaller gaps. For larger holes, black caulk is typically better suited.
Using black caulk in smaller holes typically leads to permanent damage and overall lowering of quality.

Big Stretch caulk is the best. It moulds better, is less messy, shrinks less and doesn't separate. I won't use DAP if I can help it.

Appreciate it fellas. And good to know on Dap because that is what I was looking at using.
